Mustin carried most of the time and barrelled over from the five-yard line. In the fourth period Vanderbilt drove from its own 20 to the Mississippi 22 in a series crushing line plays, but lost the ball near the end of the game when Ken Farragut intercepted Wade's pass. the first five minutes of play when Mustin raced 16 yards after Pat Massey recovered Davidson's fumble. Seconds later, Davidson plunged over for Vanderbilt from Statistics touchdown with a perfect kick. Daryle May, who held the ball, was credited with aji assist.

Don Blanchard missed the first kick for Mississippi, and that proved the margin of victory. Most of the scoring came in the wild second period in which four touchdowns were made in one minute and 16 seconds. Vanderbilt got two and Mississipppi the same number, Vanderbilt, heretofore relying on its ground game, unleashed a dazzling pass attack which netted 215 yards and three touchdowns. Oct. 8 (AP) Clemson's favored Southern Conference defending champions battled the Southeastern's also-ran Mississippi State to a 7-7 draw here tonight. Navy promptly marched the ensuing kickoff back 68 yards to tie the score on Zastrow's 20-yard pitch to end Phil Ryan. Duke duplicated on its kickoff. Jack Mounie going over from the one after Cox and Powers lugged the ball from the Blue Devil 24 seven plays. After being stopped twice within five yards of the goal. Navy finally made it but fast.

Zastrow lobbed a 12-yard pass to end Willie Wilson, who caught it on his own 48 and raced the rest of the way to tie the score. Triple Play Wins. The winning touchdown was on a perfectly timed play covering 36 yards, Zastrow to Frankie Hauff on the Duke 30, with Bill Powers coming up to take a lateral and go over easily.
