Barchenger, Gallatin fire chief changes mind, declines job Gallatin will remain without a fire chief for the foreseeable future after the Indiana man chosen for the position last month suddenly opted out of the job.

Greg Main, district chief for the Evansville Fire Department in Evansville, decided not to accept the job, two weeks after he was chosen. think a lot of his concern is related to feeling like he was coming into an environment where some changes were needed, how accepting the fire service employees may be to those changes and then how the council would react if there was a lot of Mayor Paige Brown said Wednesday. I think he had fears that he have the support. I can understand Main could not be reached for comment. City Council members had been divided on who should lead the fire department after Chief Bill Crook retired in March.

Interim Fire Chief Tommy Dale will remain in the position until a new fire chief is chosen. Cross, Gannett Tennessee Students get glances at aviation careers Dozens of high school students who want to take to the skies got a weeklong introduction to aviation at a Middle Tennessee State University summer camp that ended Friday. Potential pilots, air traffic controllers and airplane engineers were taken through aviation-based labs, flight simulators and live flights during the day camp split between the Murfreesboro Municipal Airport and MTSU. is something people get excited about, but most people know how to get said Wendy Beckman, the director and an aerospace professor at MTSU. About 30 local and out-of-state students took part.

The camp provides overviews of several aerospace-related fields and gives students a firsthand view of flight. learned more in one week here than nine weeks at said Jacob Richardson, a rising junior from White House, Tenn. Each student manned the cockpit of a Diamond imulator and practiced fundamental maneuvers with a 180-degree picture of in-air surroundings. Wilson, Gannett Tennessee AREA BRIEFS JOHN A. Burlison East Nashvillians take great pride in their part of town, but many worry they be able to live there much longer. READERS REACT Property value hike worries E. Nashville HOW THE READERS REACTED Richard Price: The tax on these properties have become ridiculous. Nashville residents are merely subjugated working stock to support a massive corporate police state and have allowed the city to turn them into another form of economic slavery.

Most do not have a clue that their tax rate is several thousand percent higher than it should be and that they are being forced to support a nearly useless and greedy government who will soon demand everything. Ron Slimmin Hall: Nashville is so backwards. It wants to be a modern city yet fights the AMP, it wants to be classy like East Nashville and yet fights rising property values, it wants businesses here and yet fights incentives to bring and keep them here. You want a classy East Nashville, learn to pay for it, if not, complain! Daniel Hiller: Property values increasing for current home owners has nothing to do with affordable housing. Government taxes force the current owners out.

Reduce government and taxes! Problem solved! start with the police, fire, parks, sidewalks, green space, etc. TODAY! Michael Robinson: It seems to me that this be an issue if the first wave of gentrification being adversely affected by tax increases and change. Now the matters? Suck it up or move to Antioch. Jerry Vandiver: The problem is the influx into Nashville making the demand for housing in the urban core so high. Developers are demolishing affordable starter houses and building ridiculous duplex mansions with prices of $400K and higher.

Diversity rents more than owns and the demise of these smaller homes makes for an extremely tight rental market that affordable. Meanwhile the developers (usually not from East Nashville) collect their profits and move one, not caring about the area.
