Aside from the weakness of staples, stock offerings still were attributed mainly to the feeling that business was far from healthy, wage questions unsettled, tax relief doubtful and international affairs notably confusing. Memwhile Ford was easing output as it moved toward its most drastic model change more than 21 years. The remainder of the industry struggled with reduced Inventories; stockpiles were cut into deeply by the postwar record output of more than 117,000 vehicles during the last week of February. The industry right now presents a somewhat unusual picture. Kaiser-Frazer, forced to defer an expansion program for economy reasons, has had to cut down its inventories. This involves a readjustment of orders on file witii suppliers.

Many of the other car makers are clamoring for more supplies. Presumably other aulo builders will get at least part of the material will be shutting off. However, they got little of it last week and the industry's output fell to about 103,000 cars and trucks. The trade paper Automotive News estimated United States output at 102,670 vehicles. Ward's automotive reports placed the total at 103,265.

Authoritative industry sources say actual receipts of sheet steel at the factories show little improvement over last year and that ferrous metals continue a major production problem. Most manufacturers look for considerably more steel tonnage during the latter part of the year. Reynolds Pays 25 Cents. Directors of Reynolds Metals Company yesterday declared a dividend of 25 cents on common shares. The dividend is payable April 1 to stockholder on record March 19.

Last year the company paid 25 cents in January and 75 cents in December plus a 10 per cent stock dividend in December. December corn was off 64 OaU Off 26 to Oats finished 2'i to 4Vi lower, May $1.104 to and soybeans were down 8 cents, the daily limit May $3.48. Lard clined in sympathy with grains and another sharp downturn in live hogs.

Final lard quotations were 80 to 97 cents a hundred pounds lower. May $21,33 to $21.37. The grain break could not be placed on any specific news. In corn, which was the weakest cereal at the close, traders said the market's technical structure was a factor. Thay pointed out that May corn had risen more than 35 cents from its low point on the February break, a rise which had dried up buying power.

Corn prices in the spot market were off 3 to 12 cents. Some difficulty was encountered in making sales after May corn dropped the limit and potential buyers were unable to put hedges into futures. Premiums which cash corn has commanded over the May delivery sank as much as 2 cents. However, country offerings were not large, bookings totaling 70,000 bushels. Weakness In wheat reflected Accumulated discouragement over recent developments particularly, the improving winter wheat crop outlook and the offering of large flour supplies to the Gov piorauNniMur Approximate MONEY Hid.Ass.ed.
