Set in 1926, the show offers the dances, music and skits of black vaudeville.

Featuring a five-member cast and a five-piece band, it comes here from New Orleans, where it's been playing two years. Naturally, Wexler has high hopes for the show. He thinks it has wide appeal: "There's a big nostalgia thing going with its music, which is pristine New Orleans jazz, two-beat jazz. "And maybe there's a certain camp aspect to the show, too. But its music definitely is accessible.

There's no problem to follow the melodic line of the songs, of things like 'Cakewalkin' Babies From and to see the dancing with it." New York (AP) FOR YEARS, Jerry Wexler, record man and mogul, has been a moving force in soul, jazz, rhythm and blues. He's boosted the careers of such folk as Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Joe Turner. But now, at 62, he's trying a new game. He's making his debut as a theater man. co-producing a black musical, "One Mo' Time." It premieres off-Broadway Monday in a Greenwich Village club.

I've had many flirtations with the theater," says Wexler, a soft-spoken New Yorker with a gently rumbling bass voice. "But this is the first time I've actually come to the post."
