Brown Sr. said yesterday the movement to keep Adolph Rupp at the University of Kentucky despite his age has the support of the basketball coach himself. During a news conference in Louisville, Brown telephoned Rupp in Lexington and told the 70-year-old coach of plans to request a hearing before the UK board of trustees in an effort to keep him past normal retirement age.

After hanging up the phone, Brown announced, "He's in favor of it, and he wants to move quickly." Meantime, Rupp announced that Darryl Bishop and Elmore Stephens, the two black players who missed a delayed flight to LSU last week, are no longer on the team. "We have decided that it would be best for the two boys to discontinue basketball for the year.
