THE COURIERJOURNAL, LOUISVILLE, KY. SATURDAY MORNING, APRIL 1, 1967 Man in the Neivs Today's Television Programs Huntley Ran Afoul of McCarthy Era Channel Chuckles lit vr and CBS, Huntley moved to NBC. Quickly, his cool, authoritative approach brought him East for national television. In October 1956, Huntley went on the air with David Brinkley they barely knew each other at the time and found immediate success. Meanwhile, Huntley was divorcing his first wife Ingrid, with whom he had two children, and marrying Tipton Stringer, once a television weather girl in Washington.

Brinkley introduced the couple. Of his partner, Brinkley says: "He's a far better performer than I am or perhaps than anyone else. He's got presence and a really excellent speaking voice. He's a kind and very considerate man. His primary trouble is that he does too much people just talk him into doing too much." And talking about himself, Huntley says in the third person: "He's a solemn, frozen, horse face that some people seem to like.

He thinks he's awfully lucky to be where he is and sometimes feels it's all transitory, fleeting. He's aware of all the incredible things he does not He can't stand ignoramuses or stuffed shirts." ABC News NEW YORK (AP) "It's still a moot point whether I was fired or resigned," Chet Huntley, said in 1951. The medium was radio then, and the issue the kind of things he was saying on his program of comment at a CBS affiliate in the Northwest The ideas were liberal apparently a little too much for the station's management and Huntley and his $750-a-week job were gone. Trouble again at the next stop, ABC's Los Angeles station, and once more the problem was liberal outspokenness, this time an attack on the late Sen. Joseph McCarthy. Principles Now Alienate Colleagues "Maybe it was a mistake," Huntley recalled, "but I felt I should define my attitudes." Now the need to take a stand, to put principles on the line has come tip again in Chester Robert Huntley's life.

But this time the position he's taken crossing a picket line of fellow workers has puzzled, alienated or angered most of the men striking the National Broadcasting Co. "What kind of guy is Huntley?" an NBC newsman who knows him asked himself rhetorically outside Radio City yesterday. "I can only think of good words courteous, gentlemanly, considerate, decent. But we can't figure this one out too well. By all odds, we'd have guessed he'd stay off, too." Worked for Other Networks Huntley, who comes across more warmly in person than with his all-business, on-the-air approach, only repeated that the issue with him is one of orinci- "Apparently they've lost the audio portion of the program." Mrs. Wooden, 19 at the time of her death, was identified by dental X-rays and the wedding ring found on the skeleton's hand. Mrs. Wooden, of 1608 Orchard, was last seen on May 22, 1965, by her mother, Mrs. M.

L. Revell, as she left for her job as a waitress. She did not go tp work that day and did not return home. Five days later she was reported missing, but since no foul play was suspected the search was not lengthy. Maj.

A. J. Miller, county chief of detectives, said the police are now investigating the possibility of foul play. In August 1965, a human skull was found near Waverly Hills. County Patrolmen Donald Hillenbrandt and Robert Conway searched the area and found other bones, including those which still carried the wedding ring.

Wedding Ring Identified Tests showed the bones belonged to a white woman between the ages of 20 and 35. Later, pathologists in Indianapolis did further examinations and said the woman was between 22 and 25, weighed between 105 and 115 pounds and was about 5 feet 3 inches tall. Hillenbrandt, sometimes working on his own time, checked through a list of some 150 women fitting the basic descriptions who had been reported missing. An aunt of Mrs. Wooden was able to identify the wedding ring because it was identical to her own.

On Tuesday, Hillenbrandt contacted the dentist who had most recently worked on Mrs. Wooden's teeth, and with the help of X-rays the skull found almost two years ago was identified. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Elmo Wooden of Bowling Green; her father, Alfred Thomas Crain, of Munfordville, her maternal, grandmother, Mrs. Delia Thompson of Glendale, and her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
