SECTION 5 HORSE RACING THE COURIERJOURNAL', LOUISVILLE, SUNDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 8, 1940. r1 Card of Thanks. 1 Services Offered Cencral. 14 Jacomar Surprises In Bay Shore 'Cap New York, Sept. 7 (P) Mrs.

E. Graham Lewis Jacomar, 3-year-old son of Jack High, came from behind in the last quarter-mile today to win the 16th running of the seven-furlong Bay Shore Handicap at Aqueduct. Outsider in the betting at $21.30 for $2, Jacomar finished half a length in front of W. L. Viscounty's Game Finish Beats Loveday Gels Noe Decision In 'Gansctt Feature Brann's unpredictable Pictor, with the favorite, Joseph E.

Widener's Roman, a length farther back in third place. Jacomar, who usually doesn't win at distances this short, dashed the seven-eighths in 1:24, four-fifths of a second off the track record. The victory was worth $4,925 to the winner, who carried 118 pounds and was ridden by Jockey Ruperto Donoso. In the companion feature on the program, another outsider, Ogden Phipps' King Cole made a show of a field of 12 2-year-olds to take the Babylon Handicap by eight lengths, making every pole a winning one. Widener's Misty Isle nosed out Arnold Hanger's Big Stakes for the place honors.

Under Jimmy Stout's handling, King Cole sprinted the six furlongs in equaling the track record and returned $12.40 for $2. The victory was worth $5,925. Governor's Cup Race Is Feature of Trots One of the outstanding races at the inaugural meeting of the Grand Circuit at the Kentucky State Fair will be the Governor's Cup to be decided Thursday afternoon. This event, open to Fourteen Class Trotters, has a value of $2,000, and in addition, a trophy donated by Mr. and Mrs.

Ben Col- lings of Louisville. The trophy will be presented by Governor Johnson. This race attracted a nice entry when the entry deadline passed on May 10 and no horses ha'e since been declared out by their owners. Among the more prominent horses expected to compete in this feature are Bostonian and Javadale. Bostonian, a product of Almahurs Farm, is a member of the stable of Vic Fleming.

He lowered a track record last week at Indianapolis. Javadale, owned by Ed M. Stout of Pontiac, won a high class race at Springfield, 111., recently. When sold as a yearling, he was listed as a pacer but was molded into a first class trotter by the veternn W. N.

Milloy. He is now a member of the stable of S. F. Palin. who drove him when he won at Springfield.

7 0T) Apparently beaten in the closing dRve, favored Viscounty, of the Valdir.a Farm Stable, came on again to grab a nose decision over Mrs. W. R. Flemming's Loveday in the $5,000 added King Philip Handicap today at Narragansett Park. Viscounty negotiated the mile nd one-sixteenth in 1:44 2-5, fastest time of the meeting for the distance, and the victory was worth $4,450, boosting the earnings of the four-year-old son of the Porter to $9,065 in 18 starts this season.

Both Viscounty and Loveday came from far off the early pace to lock in their stirring stretch duel. The flying pair had a four and one-half length advantage at the finish over Conn Smythe's Sir Marlboro. Viscounty paid $4.60, $3.60 and $2.80. Loveday returned $8.10 and $5.10 while the show price on Sir Marlboro was $4.60. Jumper Destroyed Fair Hill, Sept.

7 (D Emile Pfizers Farndale, winner cf the 1939 Foxcatcher National Cup $5,000 steeplechase and a favorite in Saturday's running. Buffered a broken right foreleg at the final jump in the event and was destroyed in full view of a crowd of 12,000. The race was won by Ilolmdcl Stable's Cartcrmoor, a 6 to 1 shot in the betting. Farndale was pushing Cartcrmoor in the closing yards when he fell. Parma was second and Bois Chabot third.

He named Baroness Lee, a sister to Lee Hanover. Though by the comparatively unknown sire, Lee Harvester, and from Baroness Hanover, a mare that did not rate highly, Lee Hanover proved an exceedingly high class horse and retired with a record of 2:00. REVERSED The list also includes a full brother and sister, Averill and Cicade. The pair were products of Castleton Stud and were by Spencer from Harvest Tide. Both raced well but on the strength of a workout mile at Lexington, Averill was held in higher esteem.

But Averill has been a disappointment lately while Cicade has been a con sistent winner in the West and Middle West. Kandahar. II (I.itsenbsrf er. $.1.20. 3.0 F.r, Isus.
