Skalbania, who purchased the club at a reported $16 million, said the team will play in the 6,500 seat Calgary Stampede Corral for the next two years but hopes to move into a new $35 million sports complex that the city wants to construct by 1983. Skalbania is the former co-owner of the Edmonton Oilers and was owner of the Indianapolis Racers of the now defunct World Hockey Association. Skalbania, who at 42 has already made millions buying and developing real estate, said the price of a ticket for next year will be $21, by far the highest in the NHL. Skalbania said the Flames franchise has three outstanding assets the franchise can be moved to any North American city without NHL approval, is a strong contender and is not bound by existing television arrangements.

Atlanta Flames owner Tom Cousins, who dejectedly announced Friday the sale of the National Hockey League club to Skalbania, cited losses of nearly $3 million and the lack of a television contract to subsidize the financially troubled club as the primary reasons for the sale.
