10 1 HE MODY, SEPTh.MBCR 22, 1973 SPORTS BEAT Gullett is sharp as Reds set record with No. 103 GEORGE HENLEY Pilots Pay 'n Pak to another crown Ryder Cup a 21-11 breeze for U.S.; Borg caps Siveden's Davis Cup rout K-A' fourth and Larvell Blanks in the fifth. Walks to Marty Perez in the second and Clarence Gaston in the seventh accounted for the Braves' other base runners. Only Gaston reached second base. Eastwick pitched perfect ball for two innings, earning his 19th save.

The Reds jumped on knuckleballer Phil Niekro in the very first inning. Pete Rose, collecting his 201st hit, led off the game with a double. It was his 46th double of the season a personal high. Then Ken Griffey belted his fourth homer of the year to straight away enter field. After giving up a single to Terry Crowley later in the inning, Niekro, 15-14, retired the next 14 batters.

Dave Conception broke the string with a one-out single in the sixth. He was forced by Griffey, who then scoied the Reds' third run on Dan Driessen's double. Associated Presi ATLANTA In recent weeks there was concern whether Don Gullett, who missed two months because of a broken thumb on his pitching hand, would be in peak form for the upcoming National League baseball playoffs. Well, Gullett dispelled some of those fears yesterday. He allowed just two-singles in seven innings and Rawly East-wick completed the shutout as the Cincinnati Reds tripped the Atlanta Braves 3 0 to complete a sweep of the four-game series.

It was also the Reds' 103rd victory of the season, a new club record. Only two other Cincinnati teams ever won as many as 100 in a season the 1940 club with 100 and the 1970 outfit with 102. Currently, the Reds are 50 games above .500 with six games remaining. The only hits allowed by Gullett, now 14 4, were singles by Dave May in the Five free agents to join Colonels Three players with professional experience 6-foot-9 forward-center Eddie Mast, 6-3 guard Tom Inglesby and 6-6 John Tschogl plus rookies Leonard Coulter, a 6-6 forward, and Jesse Jemison, a 6-7 forward, will join the Kentucky Colonels for the opening of fall camp Tuesday. All five are free agents.

Compiled by BOB ADAIR From AP and Sptcill Dispetches British-Irish golfers salvaged a bit of personal and national pride with victories in four of the last eight singles matches, but it was too little and far too late as the United States showed an overwhelming 21-11 edge when biennial Ryder Cup competition ended yesterday at Ligonier, Pa. Six of the points won by the BritishSrish came when it didn't matter after Tom Weiskopf clinched thinqs with a 5 and-3 morning blitz of Guy Hunt. The U. S. brought its margin to 15-4-1 in the series that started in 1927.

"This is probably the strongest team ever fielded," said 44-year-old Billy Casper, who played in the matches a record eighth time. Jack Nicklaus twice fell victim to Brian Barnes. The big, pipe-smoking Scot won 4 and 2 in the morning and then beat the U. S. star 2 and 1 in the afternoon.

Tennis Birgcr Andersson, a full-time pro only six months, clinched Sweden's first Davis Cup final berth with a 6-3, 14-12, 6-1 triumph over Chilean veteran Patricio Cornejo. Bjom Borg then wrapDed up the 4-1 victory over Chile with a 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 rout of Jaime Fillol, the No. 1 Chilean player whose life had been threatened if he played in the semifinal matches at Baastad, Sweden. Chilean news media said in Santiago that political pressures contributed to Chile's loss. The series was 'closely followed there by some three million television viewers.

Sweden will go into the final later this year against the winner of next week's semifinal series in Prague between Australia and Horse racing American History, who loomed big in the 1975 Kentucky Derby picture before an injury sidelined him in Florida, made a big run from fifth to win yesterday's $44,375 Count Fleet Handicap, at Belmont Park. Harry T. Mangurian son of Tom Rolfe, ridden by Jorge found the slopoy going to his likinc and scored by seven lengths with a mile in 1:35 under 111 pounds. Sigmund Sommers Ramahom was second, 1 14 Jcngths before Greentree Stable's early leader, Knightly Sport, who was disqualified to fourth for bothering Tartan Stable's Hunka Papa. Prince Thou Art continued to disappoint, and Yamamin ran out, too.

Singh and Whiskey Poppa were scratched. American History, favored by the 23,077 fans, paid S5.80, $4 and $2.80. Ramahorn's prices were $5.20 and $3.40, and Hunka Papa paid $3.60. Football The four touchdown passes thrown by Kenny Stabler in last year's playoff game probably will be on the minds of the Miami Dolphins tonight when they try to avenge their 28-26 loss to the Oakland Raiders. A defensive team rebuilt by necessity because of pre-season injuries will have the job of stopping Stabler in the nationally televised (ABC, Channel 32 at 9 p.m.) game Representatives of NFL owners are scheduled to present to the players' union today a contract proposal designed to end nearly 20 months of labor grief.

The promise of a substantial offer by the owners was the key to last week's truce which ended a wildcat strike and permitted the opening of the regular season as scheduled. Pay Pak wins Weisf ieldV for 3rd national title in row as traffic slows Budweiscr SAN DIEGW (AP) George Henley of Eatonville, piloted Pay 'n Pak to come-from-behind victories in all three heats yesterday to win the Weisfield's Cup unlimited hydroplane race on Mission Bay. The triumph gave Pay Pak a third straight unlimited national championship and a record 16th conquest for a single hull. Second in the final standings of the Weisfield's Cup was Miss Budweiscr, driven by Mickey Remund. Third overall was Lincoln Thrift, driven by Milner Irvin.

Entering the final race of the season, Weisfield's, driven by Billy Schumacher, was leading the national points race. But after losing a duel with Pay 'n Pak in the first heat, Weisfield's lost an oil line midway through the second heat and virtually handed the title to Henley's boat. Going into the championship heat, Pay 'n Pak and Miss Budweiscr both had perfect records with two firsts. Budweiscr led until the final turn, where heavy traffic cost the boat time. Pay 'n Pak, in an outside lane, raced to a third close win.
