MARSHALL HOME Continued The house suffered damage during the 1937 flood. Lillie Marshall and her sister, who were living on the plantation had to be taken out by boat. After the flood the family moved away, and the house was left vacant Last year the house had just been wired for electricity when it caught fire and burned to the ground.

The surrounding buildings were saved. The Marshall House was a stately structure. Aside from its large number of rooms it had a massive entrance hall, and a beautiful spiral stairway which was built without the help of a single nail. It was completely held together by wooden pegs. The front of the house was adorned by a Greek revival porch with lofty pillars.

On the second floor there was said to have been one of the earliest indoor toilets in this part of the world. The brick walls of the house were painted white, and all the plaster boards were hewn by hand. Even though the interior was completely destroyed by the fire, the brick walls still stand, which is something to the credit of the builders of a hundred years ago. If you went to Marshall Bottoms todays you could see the brick shell which is all that is left of the old house and the trees which used to shade its lawn. But without Casa Bianca the old plantation is just another farm.
