HI 7. Murfreesboro, Incorporated. Los Angeles, Nov. 26 W) The Battling Bruins of University of California at Los Angeles and the favored Trojans of Southern California battled to a 7-7 standstill today before a Thanksgiving crowd of 85,000 football fans. Coach Bill Spaulding's Bruins pounded to a 7-pointlead in the second period.

Then the men of Troy responded to Howard Jones' half-time instructions and tied the count in the third with a brilliant aerial attack. I U. C. L. battering backs, after intercepting a pass on the Trojan 39.

Knoxville, Nov. 26. A gallant University of Kentucky football team went down fighting here this afternoon, 7 to 6, before the University of Tennessee Volunteers while more than 20,000 chilled fans forgot the cold in their intense interest. The Wildcats outplayed the favored Volunteers throughout and came within a yard of staging one of the greatest upsets of the current season. Vols Kept In Stew.

Inspired by the confidence voted in their-coach. Chet Wynne, by the Kentucky Athletic Council, which declined to wait for the end of the season before renewing his contract for another three-year term, the Kentucky boys turned on as they have not performed before this year, out-gained the team that smashed Georgia, Duke and Vanderbilt, and kept the Tennessee lads in a continual stew until the final gun. Kentucky started battling at the opening kick-off and continued hammering, always threatening until the Tennessee fans heaved a sigh of relief at the close of the game. Winners IleJd Lucky. Even the most partisan Volunteer fan would have to admit that the Vols were lucky in turning back the snarling Wildcat pack.

Kentucky made thirteen first downs to ten for the Vols. Tennessee outgained Kentucky by only two yards 153 to 151 in running plays, but Kentucky was vastly superior in the air, out-maneuvering Tennessee to the extent of 114 yards to sixteen. Altogether, Kentucky gained 265 yards to 169 for their ancient enemies. Kentucky scored first in the second period, but Tennessee came back in the third to go into its meager lead. But whereas the Vols never threatened seriously to cross the Wildcat goal line except that one lone occasion, Kentucky bore down to a yard of the Vol goal line in the fourth stanza, only to lose the ball on downs.

Neither team threatened to do damage in the opening quarter. They sparred around between the third yard lines like boxers. Then Kentucky went into action. Punt Puts Vols In Hole. By virtue of a beautiful punt by Bert Johnson, playing his final game as a Wildcat, Kentucky placed the Volunteers in a bad hole.

The punt bounced around until Russell Ellington, Louisville boy playing end for the Cats, (Continued on Page 7, Column 6.) South. Dnke IS. N. C. State O.

Rollins 21, Florida 19. Clemson, S. Nov. 26 C4) Throwing off the underdog role after the half, Furman's Purple Hurricane defeated Clemson 12-0 today by a brace of fourth-period touchdowns before 12,000. The touted out-gained Furman 160 yards to 103, mostly in four rampages that Furman fought off on the four, six, 21 and 25-yard lines before the intermission.

The Furman team retained the State championship it won from Clemson last year, 8-6. Captain Bob King, Furman end, failed in tries for field goals from placement in the third period, when the game threatened to see-saw into a scoreless tie, and again in the fourth period. Center Passes Low. His efforts to kick the extra points from placement failed to reach the leg-swinging stage because of low passes from center each time, but his defensive performance outshone all others in a day of rugged tackling. Furman's first touchdown drive started from the Tiger 36.

A line smash, a 15-yard penalty and pass put the ball on the 1-yard line and Scott went over, but the play was recalled and Furman penalized five yards for offside. Two plays later Jenkins raced wide through a scattered field for the touchdown. A few minutes later Smoak pounced in and blocked Sanders' ount and Furman recovered on the 1-yard line. Scott rammed the line for the touchdown. Colgate Trounces Browns By 32-0 to Close Old Series Providence, R.

East-West Coaches Set San Nov. 26 W) Preparations for the twelfth annual East-West Shrine football game, featuring the Nation's grad- uating college stars, got under way today with appointment of Andy Kerr of Colgate and Dick Hanley, formerly of Northwestern, as coaches of the East squad.

Despite the perfect Thanksgiving morning weather, a slim crowd of 5,000 gathered to watch this Andy Kerr-coached outfit gain its eighth straight victory over the Bruins.

Four of the five Colgate touchdowns were due to the starting backfield's efficient overhead attack. Eddie Lalor registered three of them, two on one-yard plunges and the third from the 20-yard line, where he completed a pass from Sharp-Shooter Frank Marshall. Marshall wiped out seventy yards by completing three consecutive aerials, the last of which contacted Whit "Rubberlegs" Jaeger, who raced over from Brown's 10-yard line.
