No new facilities other than the Wood River Township Hospital have been constructed In recent years to take care of the RrowlnR demand. Wood River Hospital's present plight Is a rase In point. The crowded conditions there became acute Friday evening when every bed, cot and space was filled with a series of accidents and emergency admissions.

The hospital has a limited number of extra beds to be placed In the halls. For some time it hns been necessary to use hall beds continuously, try- Ing to keep a few beds for emergencies. This night It was necessary to use every bod in the hospital and to take the cots from the doctors' locker room and the treatment room. After every bed and cot was filled an accident, victim was brought into the hospital and It was necessary to transfer an 11-year-old child from an adult bed to a child's crib for the night. This child was able lo be discharged early Saturday morning to alleviate the problem.

The doctors making their rounds Saturday morning were all remarking "this is serious and emphasizes the need for a larger hospital." One on emergency call added "I hope this condition is belter by know the high frequency of accidents that usually occur on the weekends." Other comments by members of the medical staff pointed out the problem of the noise in the halls which are filled with critical patients. It: was necessary for the hospital lo cancel most of its reservations Saturday for both medical and surgical cases. It was also necessary to cancel out-patient treatment for basal metabolism and electrocardiograms.
