Villeneuve was timed in 1 hour. 52 minutes, 1.715 seconds and managed to hold off Irvine, who tried to pass him with four laps remaining. Raul Boesel purposely got out of pit-stop sequence and led 27 laps, while a flat tire left Jimmy Vasser out of sync and up front for 11 circuits.
