Juanpaa Cowell, 76, the widow of James Cowell, died Friday in her Indianapolis home. Born in northern Michigan, she was a member of the Havens Lutheran Church at Detroit. She lived in Indianapolis two years. Services will be held at 10 a m. Monday in Little and Sons Funeral Home in Beech Grove, where friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m.

Roberts, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Flanner and Buchanan Broad Ripple Mortuary, where friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday. She died Thursday in Community Hospital. A native of Fishers, she lived here most of her life.

She was a member of Fishers United Methodist Church; a past matron of Millersville Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; and a member of Noblesville Senior Citizens and White Cross Guild of Methodist Hospital. Survivors include a daughter, Max-ine Mitchell, and two sons, Keith and Dale Roberts. C. Frederick Ruesclv C. Frederick Ruesch, 74, a lifelong Indianapolis resident, died Friday in Community Hospital.

He worked as a machine designer for Diamond Chain Co. 15 years, retiring in 1966, and previously was employed at P.R. Mallory Co. 10 years. He was a member of Cumberland Masonic Lodge 726, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m.

Sunday. Hendryx Cumberland Mortuary is handling arrangements. He is survived by a brother. Tom Ruesch. Charles O.

Heed Charles O. Heed, 88. died Friday in a local nursing home. Born at Owensboro, he lived here most of his life. He was a supervisor for Indianapolis Railway where he was employed from 1919 to 1957.

He drove a school bus many years for Holy Spirit Catholic Church, of which he was a member. Services will be held at 8 30 a.m. Monday in Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, where friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and at 9 a.m. Monday in Holy Spirit Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary P. Heed and Eunice Lynch. Harry Hobbs Jr. Services for Harry Clay Hobbs 54. 925 North Lynn Street, will be held at 1 p.m.

Monday in Stuart Mortuary, where friends may call from noon to 9. p.m. Sunday. Mr. Hobbs died Thursday in West 10th Street Veterans Administration Medical Center.

A lifelong Indianapolis resident, he worked for Union Carbide Corporation Linde Division more than 25 years. He was a member of United Auto Workers of America, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Hobbs; five daughters, Vickie Jones, Irene and Harriett Hobbs, Carolyn Cole and Valorie Dunn, and five sons, Harold Hobbs, Harry Hobbs III and Dewayne, Steve and Torrance Dunn. Huth Hurt Services for Ruth Norrington Hurt, 56, wife of Robert Hurt. Indianapolis, will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Monday in Singleton Herr Madison Avenue Mortuary, where friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Hurt died Thursday in her home. She was a member of Garfield Park United Church of Christ and was a past matron of Southport Chapter 442, Order of the Eastern Star.

Born in Pike County, she lived in Indianapolis 51 years. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. John Norrington. Elizabeth Furst Memorial services for Elizabeth Furst.

74. Indianapolis, will be held at 3 m. Sunday in Westminster United Presbyterian Church. There will be no calling. Mrs.

Furst, a native of Madison, died Tuesday in Methodist Hospital. She was a child welfare worker who had been employed at Colorado Psychiatric Hospital and the Indiana Women's Prison. A freelance writer as well, she had articles published in numerous periodicals. She came to Indianapolis about 50 years ago. She was a graduate of Pomona College in California and had done graduate work at the University of Chicago and the University of Denver.

Mrs. Furst was a member of Indianapolis Urban League, Indianapolis League of Women Voters, Irvington Home Study Club and the Society of Indiana Pioneers. She was the widow of Ralph Furst. Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster church. Shirley Brothers East Chapel is handling arrangements.

William D. Galloway Syracuse, Ind. Services for William D. Galloway, 33, R.R. 1, Syracuse, killed late Thursday in the crash of a small aerobatic biplane at Manchester will be held at 2 p.m.

Monday in Hippensteel Funeral Home at Lafayette. Friends may call at the funeral home an hour before services. Mr. Galloway was manager of South Shore Golf Club at Lake Wawasee here and also was assistant manager of Deer Creek Country Club at Deerfield Beach, where he also had a residence. He had attended Purdue University and was a 33rd-degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Gay Lynn Galloway, and his parents, Harry M. Galloway, professor emeritus of agronomy at Purdue, and Margaret D. Galloway. Glen E. Hauser Services for Glen E.

Hauser, 88, Whitestown, a retired farmer, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Russell and Hitch Funeral Home at Lebanon, where friends may call after 2:30 p.m. today. He died Thursday in St. Vincent Hospital.

A lifelong Boone County resident, Mr. Hauser was a member of Whitestown Methodist Church. Jan per C. Merriott Lebanon. Ind.

Jasper C. Merriott, 94. Lebanon, a former Boone County deputy sheriff and lumber company worker, died Friday in a local nursing home. He had been employed at the Metzger Lumber and Pinnell-Coombs companies here. He was a 73-year member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge 45 and Walnut Street Baptist Church.

Services will be held at 10:30 am. Monday in Myers Mortuary, where friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Survivors include three sons, Ronald Alfred E.

and Ora Merriott, and two daughters, Clara Russell and Betty Hughes. Othella Merz Othella Schreckengast Merz, 93. Greenwood, a retired piano teacher, died Friday in Johnson County Hospital. A native of Omaha, Mrs. Merz lived in the Indianapolis area 25 years.

She was the widow of Rudolph Merz. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Wilson-St. Pierre Greenwood Chapel, where friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Walker, and a son, Robert L. Merz. Wallace L. Meyers Arcadia, Ind. Services for Wallace L.

Meyers, 85, R.R, 2. Arcadia, a retired farmer and livestock hauler, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hartley Funeral Home here, where friends may call after 2 p.m. today. He died Thursday in River-view Hospital at Noblesville.

He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge here. Survivors include his wife, Lois Meyers, and two sons, Merrill L. and Don A. Meyers. Mildred D.

Indianapolis, who died Thursday in a local nursing home, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Abdon and Grose Funeral Home, where friends may call from 3 to 5 m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Born in Germany, he lived here 60 years and worked as a die cutter for Herff Jones 45 years, retiring in 1965.

He was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Herff Jones Guild, Lutheran Men's Service Guild and Lutheran Laymen's League. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Baumeister; a daughter, Ruth Lanum, and a son, Dr. Herbert Baumeister. liuis v. ujuzon.

Thelma Dewey Services for Thelma Pennycuff Weaver Dewey. 68. formerly of Indianapolis, will be held at 4 p.m. today in Singleton Herr Madison Avenue Mortuary. Mrs.

Dewey died Thursday in a Greenwood nursing home. Born at Hymera, she lived in Greenwood eight years. Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Rice, Ellen Berkey and Bert Willingham, and a son, Joseph Pennycuff. Martha Jane Dodd Martha Jane Love Dodd, 75, 3126 North Harding Street, a retired schoolteacher, died Friday in Wishard Memorial Hospital. Born at Kosciuski, she lived in Indianapolis 42 years.

Mrs. Dodd taught school in Missisippi 10 years and in Indianapolis Public Schools, more than 25 years, last at School 63. The widow of Willie M. Dodd, she was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and the Indianapolis Education Association.

A graduate of Alcorn University, she did graduate work at Jackson State University and the University of Mississippi. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Paul Church. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m.

Tuesday in Stuart Mortuary. Survivors include a son, William H. Dodd; a daughter. Julia Peeler Reeves, and a foster daughter, Ollie J. Williams.

George Fogarty Services for George Fogcrty, 91, Indi Ernest Settles Services for Ernest Settles, 73. 806 East Lawrence Street, former owner of several Shell service stations, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Singleton Herr Madison Avenue Mortuary, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday. He died Thursday in a local nursing home.

He also was a truck driver for Burger Chef five years, retiring 10 years ago. Born in Johnson County, he lived in the Indianapolis area most of his life. Survivors include his wife, Henrietta Settles; three daughters, Mrs. Ernest Ott, Mrs. Gordon Edwards and Mrs.

William Baird; two sons, Robert and Ernest Settles two stepdaughters. Dr. Barbara Burris and Mrs. Robert Storey, and a stepson, Patrick Pardi. Geneva Sexton Services for Geneva Sexton, 58, 2, Greenfield, formerly of Indianapolis, will be held at a.m.

Pasco Memorial Mortuary at Greenfield has charge of Flint's jobless rate drops to 17 percent Detroit (AP) The unemployment rate in Flint, whose auto industry cutbacks have given it one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation, has declined to 17.4 percent, state officials said Friday. The September rate, lowered by auto industry callbacks, was down from 20.7 percent the previous month, the commission said. Across the state, the unemployement rate declined in nine of 13 high-unemployment areas because of a drop in the number of auto layoffs and the reopening of schools, the agency said.

Michigan's statewide jobless rate in September was just under 12 percent, the highest in the nation. Alice Kahn Alice Kahn, 86, died Friday in her home, 6330 Central Avenue. Born at Neustadt, Germany, she had lived here since 1937. She made her home with a sister-in-law, Lucy Kahn. Miss Kahn was a member of the National Council of Jewish Women.

Known throughout the Jewish community for her fine pastries, she frequently was called upon to bake for bar mitzvahs and weddings. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Meridian Hills Mortuary. Robert E.

Liese Services for Robert E. Liese, 67, Martinsville, formerly of Indianapolis, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in Fogleman Funeral Home at Martinsville, where friends may call until time of services. Mr. Liese, an owner of the Bookstore and a Greyhound Bus station at Martinsville, died Thursday in his' home.

Born in Tennessee, he lived in Indianapolis 22 years. He was a bishop and superintendent of the Southern Mississippi District of the Church of God in Christ, with jurisdiction over 27 churches, retiring in 1958. A member of the National Conference of Church of God, Bishop Bronough also had been the Church of God National Evangelist since 1959. He is survived by his brother, the Rev. M.

Frank Forten-berry. Vergie Cochran Franklin, Ind. Vergie Cochran. 86, Franklin, the widow of Frank Cochran, died Friday in an Edinburgh nursing home. She was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church near here.

Mrs. Stratton died Thursday in St. Vincent Hospital. Born at Mornstown. N.J she lived here two years.

Robert James. anapolis, a retired semi-pro basketball player, will be held at 1 p.m. today in Wilson-St. Pierre Greenwood Chapel. He died Wednesday in West 10th Street Veterans Administration Medical Center.

A native of Brooklyn. N.Y., Mr. Fogarty lived in Indianapolis one month. He began playing semi-professional basketball at age 12 with the Brooklyn Wonders, then in 1906 started his own team, the Tammany Hall Five, which later became the New York Nationals. He also coached the sport in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota, and served in the Army during World War I.

After retiring from basket-nail, he was a co-owner of the Town and Country night club at Milwaukee, retiring in the mid-1950s. He was a member of the Catholic Church and the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Rachel Fogarty. Helen Goss Frick Services for Helen G. Goss Frick, 63, Indianapolis, will be held at 11:30 a.m.

Monday in Conkle Speedway Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 9 m. Sunday. She died Thursday in Methodist Hospital. Born at Paragon, Mrs. Frick lived in Indianapolis 35 years and worked as a code operator for ADT Security Systems 20 years.

(AP) Ruth Duncan, who has not missed a chance to vote since the 19th Amendment gave her that right at age 40, is taking no chances on missing Tuesday's election.

It's her 100th birthday, after all. "I don't have a horse any longer and it's hard for me to get around," she said, so she mailed in an absentee ballot.
