City State Jasonville Man Wanted In Murder Following Fight STAR SOUTHERN INDIANA BUREAU Jasonville, Ind. Police issued a search warrant Monday for a Jasonville man wanted in connection with the killing of Patrick D. Haga, 20, Jasonville, and the wounding of another man during an argument. Joseph S. Dicus, 20, was named in a warrant charging murder and attempted murder, issued by Greene Circuit Court Judge David K.

Johnson. Greene County Prosecutor J. David Holt said Haga and a passenger in his pickup truck, Scott Hayes, 15, Jasonville, argued with Dicus, who was in his own car, as the men drove through Jasonville. The trio "agreed to drive out of town and settle their differences" in a fist fight, Holt said. But when Haga and Hayes got out of their truck, Dicus began shooting at them, according to Hayes' story to police.

The pickup truck was peppered with bullet holes and Haga was hit three times in the chest and face. Hayes was in serious condition in Greene County Hospital at Linton. The shooting occurred about two miles east of Jasonville near the intersection of County Roads 950 North and 1200 West. The injured Hayes was able to get a ride from a truck driver on nearby Ind. 48 and was taken to a Jasonville physician's office, where the shooting was reported to police.

Holt said local and Indiana State Police still are investigating the murder. He said he did not know what started the argument. The trio apparently knew each other before the argument, which may have been about a girl, according to police. Suspension Of Sentence In Drug Case Ends Battle William C. Daugherty, a 21-year-old machinist trainee facing four drugrelated charges, received a 12-year prison sentence Monday in Marion Superior Court, Criminal Division.

However, all but one year Daugherty already has served was suspended. The proceedings are noteworthy because Daugherty has been at the center of a legal tug of war between Special Judge Jay B. Haggerty and Prosecutor Stephen Goldsmith for the last year. Daugherty was sentenced twice in the same case and each time, Haggerty's actions were challenged by the prosecutor's office. The case began last August when Daugherty, 7251 Farris Avenue, pleaded guilty to three counts of delivery of a controlled substance and one count of possession of cocaine and accepted a plea-bargain arrangement calling for a six-year prison term.

When his case came before Haggerty, the special judge reduced the term to two years. Goldsmith appealed to the Indiana Supreme Court, and the court sided with him last November, ordering Haggerty to accept the plea bargain in full or reject it and begin trial proceedings. Haggerty chose the plea bargain, but four months later released Daugherty from prison on shock probation. Goldsmith appealed again, and the high court ruled Haggerty in contempt. That time, the special judge ordered a trial for Daugherty and disqualified himself from the case.

On Monday, Special Judge Ralph May accepted Daugherty's latest guilty plea made this time without benefit of a plea bargain and sentenced him to the 12 years in prison. He then suspended all but the year of time served and put Daugherty on nine years' probation. Rita Akins, a probation officer who testified in Daugherty's behalf Monday, said the probationary period is the longest one she has seen. She testified that Daugherty was "one of the best probationers I've ever had to supervise" and said she felt he had "definitely been rehabilitated." Others testifying in his behalf included a volunteer probation officer, his employer and a priest.
