"We had an emotional outburst. You talk about commitment, we had it when we came out of that locker room." "We were aggressive, gang-tackling and we really handled them," added veteran Cincy linebacker Jim LeClair, who returned one Steeler fumble 27 yards for a touchdown. FOR L.A. to beat Pittsburgh, the Rams also must do what Cincy did when the Steelers committed a turnover capitalize on it. Four of Cincinnati's five touchdowns were a direct result of Pittsburgh turnovers.

i Even though Pittsburgh Coach Chuck Noll lamented that "we aided and abetted them considerably," he conceded that "the Bengals caused a few" of the fumbles. "They forced the mistakes," he said. "They deserved the victory. They did the job defensively and offensively. The reason we couldn't come back is because the Bengals had something to say about it." While the Steelers will be well-prepared for L.A., they also said they had been ready for Cincy, only to have the bottom fall out.

"We didn't take Cincinnati lightly," noted Rocky Bleier. "In fact, I thought we were well prepared for them." "The Bengals played well," added Mel Blount, "and you've got to give it to them." THE CINCINNATI game also indicated the Rams might have an advantage over Pittsburgh because the Super Bowl will be played in what figures to be good weather at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. "The weather was too good," Bradshaw said of the sunny, pleasant day in Cincinnati. "We're not used to it." And, if the Rams can beat Pittsburgh, they may also get a bonus closing Mean Joe Greene's mouth the way Cincinnati did. The only thing Mean Joe had to say after the Cincinnati humiliation was, "When you ain't got nothing good to say, don't say nothing, and that says it all." game.

Passed 40 times. Aha, Franco Harris was out, right? No, Franco was in the lineup, running and catching passes. John Stallworth must have been out? Wrong again, Stallworth had a good day, catching half-a-dozen passes for 126 yards. In fact, the Steelers were in the best physical shape for that game than at any point earlier in the season. SO, HOW did the Bengals blast Pittsburgh? And, can Los Angeles duplicate it? There's a one-word answer to the first question.

"Turnovers." The Steelers gave up seven fumbles and two intercepted passes to the Bengals. Nine turnovers. As for Los Angeles duplicating it, that of course, will require some sloppy play from Pittsburgh. But, L.A. can contribute, with aggressive, slam-bang defense.

That's how Cincinnati added to Pittsburgh's woes. "We were hitting like our defense has Cincinnati (UPI) You're probably one of the millions who figure there's no way the Los Angeles Rams can beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl. Unless you live in L.A. or happen to be a die-hard Rams fan, you may be ready to bet your car, house and dog on the "sure thing" Steelers. But hold on.

There is a way Los Angeles can win. And win big. A LITTLE history lesson from Cincinnati tells you how. You may not recall it, but just three months ago, these "invincible" Steelers were humiliated and destroyed by the lackluster Cincinnati Bengals. On Oct.

14, the Bengals, 0-6 at the time, pounded Pittsburgh all day long and dumped the Steelers, 34-10. The score would have been an even worse 34-3 had not the Steelers managed a meaningless fourth period touchdown. What happened? Terry Bradshaw must have been out, right? WHITEWALL ADD S2. Limited time offer! Jones Keeps Poll; Drivers Blast Track Buenos Aires, Argentina (AP) Alan Jones of Australia won the pole position for Sunday's Argentine Grand Prix after Saturday's qualifying that was marred by deteriorating track conditions at the Autodrome and driver complaints about its safety. Race organizers, after hearing the complaints, agreed to change the course of Sunday's race if overnight efforts to repair broken aspahlt are unsuccessful. Jones finished the trials with the fastest lap time among 28 competitors, he climbed out of his Saudi Williams FW07 and pointed out the stretches of broken asphalt to officials. "I'M GOING to take those stretches very slow in the race so I don't skid off the track, like half the drivers did today, and lose my position," said Jones, winner of four Grand Prix races last year.

Behind Jones in second place was Jacques Laffite, in his Ligier JS15, followed by his teammate Didier Pironi both of them from France. In fourth place was Nelson Piquet of Brazil, who in the morning practice session Saturday had destroyed on of the Brabham BT 49's in a spinout on one of the 3.7-mile track's slippery curves. Piquet was followed by the two Lotus cars, newcomer Elio De Angelis of Italy and then former world champion Mario Andretti of the United States. The 1979 World Champion Jody Scheckter of South Africa, president of the Fromula One Drivers Association, also complained of the track condition and said his poor qualifying position dlth) was due to the track. "The car is not the problem," Scheckter said.

"It's just that I cannot tell my mechanics to adjust the track." After Saturday's trials, the Formula One Constructors Association, which organizes the races, met with the drivers to discuss their complaints. Bernie Ecclestone, president of the organizers group, said after the meeting that the broken stretches would be repaired and tested by the drivers at 10 30 a.m. Sunday, 2'j hours before the start of the race. If the drivers are not satisfied, he said, the course will be changed to something like an oval, eliminating the troublesome, winding segment which has two 180-degree turns. the fifth round of their heavyweight bout at Atlantic City Saturday.

SATURDAY'S victory was the first for Spinks since he defeated Ali in their first fight. The fight was held before 1.500 spectators in the show theater of Resorts International Hotel Casino.

"I was just trying to prove to myself that I wasn't all washed up," Spinks said. "A lot of people thought I was washed up but I am still a young man. I've been out for seven months and I want to feel my way back to the top." "You can't box Spinks because he you give him," Evangelista said. "He just comes in until he gets you. I wanted to come to the States again to give the audience a good fight." Meanwhile, Spinks was named in a paternity suit filed in U.S.

District Court by a woman who claims Spinks is the father of her three children. The suit filed Friday by Zadie Mae Calvin alleges that Spinks is the father of the woman's 9, 6. and 1-year-old sons but that Spinks has refused to support the children. The woman is seeking child support payments from Spinks, a former St. Louis resident now living in Detroit.

Miss Calvin filed a similar paternity suit against Spinks in St. Louis Circuit Court in 1978 but the woman's attorney said no agreement had been reached before Spinks moved out of the state. (AP) A flabby but still powerful Leon Spinks pounded his way back to heavyweight contention Saturday with a fifth-round knockout of Alfredo Evangelista. Spinks, the former heavyweight boxing champion, recovered from a vicious pounding in the second round to drop Evangelista, a Spaniard, with a brutal right cross to the jaw with 2:43 gone in the fifth round. Evangelista went to the canvas and shook his head, refusing to continue the brutal slugfest as referee Vincent Rainone counted him out. "Condition told what went on in this fight," said Judge Harold Lederman from ringside.

"We learned who was really in shape." Spinks, the St. Louis-born and Marine-bred fighter, weighed in at a swelled 209 pounds, but still gave 13 pounds to the 25-year-old Evangelista. Spinks, the 1976 Olympic gold medalist, advanced his professional record to 8-2-1 with five knockouts. The veteran Evangelista dropped to 32-5-2 in his four-year pro career. FROM THE opening bell, the fighters stood toe to toe pounding away.

It appeared that Evangelista had decided to lay on the ropes and allow Spinks to punch himself tired. In the second round, Evangelista backed Spinks into his own corner and flailed away at the former champ. But Spinks withstood the offensive and that seemed to tire and discourage Evangelista, the former European heavyweight champion. The pace of the fight slowed in the third round but both fighters continued their free-swinging attack in the fifth. Early in the final round.

Evangelista was warned about holding Spinks' head. The Spaniard appeared to tire dramatically before Spinks began his final flurry with a right to the back of his head, staggering Evangelista against the ropes. Spinks landed five straight punishing blows before the right hand sent Evangelista down. (AP) Daytona International Speedway President William France Saturday announced he's withdrawn his threat to move the Firecracker 400 auto race to Indianapolis.

France said he changed his mind because local government officials showed they want to work out a tax problem. The state supreme court has ordered the speedway to pay property taxes, but France has been fighting that decision for several years. Over the past week, the Daytona Beach city commission and the Volusia County council passed resolutions to work with the speedway toward a legal and equitable solution. Two months ago, France threatened to move the July 4 Grand National event to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway if the tax problem wasn't solved. He also said he'd move the Daytona 500 to his track at Talladega, Ala.

"We have never wanted to move the Firecracker, or any of our races, from Volusia County," France said. EXPIRES SATURDAY! i the innovations Energy saving tune-up 88 Hcyl.
