"Sweeten the kitty" means to shower down with money for an orchestra at a dance or for a group of entertainers. 3. Most sugar is refined from sugar beets and sugar cane. Good--Meet the family By Ruth Millett Now that the family car is spending most of its time in the garage we're going to have more hours for those things we never seemed to get around to. Saving our tires is going to keep us at home evenings, and that will give us a chance to get better acquainted with our own families, something we always meant to do. Instead of each member of the family going his separate way as soon as dinner is over, we'll have many evenings when all the family is in. To keep those evenings from dragging we will hunt up -games the whole family can play, add new phonograph records to our collections, go in for the old- fashioned pasttime of corn popping (there won't be sugar for candy- making) and bring home more books from the public library—books the whole family can read and discuss. And those nice neighbors we always said we would like to know better. Well, there'll be time to get acquainted with them, now that we won't be out on the highways every week-end. We'll have more time for letter writing, too, keeping up with old freinds who have moved away from us. And there'll be more time for doing the nice little things for others that used to be just good intentions. Localizes your interests Those of us who live in small towns will find we're taking more interest Hooe Star ,WASH TUBBS .. . WI.
