Mr. and Mrs. Clark Harris and family spent the Fourth visiting with relatives at Perry, Iowa. The Merry Maids 4-H Club will entertain their mothers on Wednesday afternoon, July 13th, at the home of Vivian and Margaret Stewart. Let's have every member and her mother present to enjoy the afternon.

Mr and Mrs. Walter Weston and family spent the Fourth at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wristen in Des Moines. In the afternoon they all attended the Temperance Lectures at Greenwood Park.

Mr and Mrs. Wilfred McClannahan and Ilea attended the McClannahan reunion Sunday at the Mitchellville Park. They reported a good crowd and a fine time. Miss Wanda Pritehard spent Monday afternoon with Miss Helen Weston. Mr.

M. West Passes Away Mrs. F. M. West, one of the oldest pioneers of this section passed away at her home here Sunday morning age 84 years.

She had been in poor health for several years and had been much worse lately, but was only con- imed to her bed for about three days before her death. Mrs. West had seen the prairies of Iowa converted into flegant farms, cities and towns' built where there had been nothing- but grass and plain? when she camo to this ptate in 1848. she had seen and witnessed the or- amzing of public affairs. Her father Stephen Harvey was secretary of the meeting when Delaware Township was 'organized and Mrs.

West had kept the orginal records of. this meeting until her death. Mrs. West's father was also one of appointed in this section being postmaster at Harvey's Point, which was located on what is now the Joe Ogelvie farm, mail was carried then by stage and horseback and the other nearest post offices were at Vandalia and Swede's Point (now Madrid, Iowa) one had kept and preserved the letters of appointment of her father as postmaster at Harvey's Point. She told and remembered many historical events of which she loved to talk and to tell of the advancements which she had seen.

She often told of seeing' steamboats come up the Ues Moines river and of seeing the Mormon Caravan pass through as they went from Illinois to Salt Lake City. She lived a useful life which was tilled with interest and experiences of historical value. Jemima Harvey, daughter of Stephen and Susan Lee Harvey was born in Shelbyvyie, Shelby County, Indiana, January 12th, 1848 'and died July 10th, 1932 at the age of 84 years, five months and Her parents brought her to Jowa the same year and settled east of DBS Moines on the old Harvey homestead, which is now the -F. OgelWe This old homestead was later-known as Hervey's Point and used as a post- office for many years. She was a descendant of John Weatherbee who came to America and settled in Massachusetts in 1628.

She was married to Francis Marion West, son of James nd usan West on March loth, 1866 and celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary the 16th of last March bne has liveu continuously in Polk County with the exception of five years in Nebraska. to this union eight children were born: Jerry who died in infancy and Nellie 'Mae and Perry who have preceeded her 1 l-i a Vlve her husband, the children; Rufus, Ora and Harvey, larks of a Christian. program The Bondurant church of Christ was not in position to accept our invitation to spend next Sunday in fellowship with us. We hope that in the future this may be brought about. The Boy Scouts will "hike" Saturday leaving the church corner at 10:00 o'clock. They will carry enough "chow" for two meals in case two are needed. This will be a passing hike.
