FOOTBALL Carruth reportedly offered plea bargain Prosecutors have offered plea bargains to former Carolina Panthers player Rae Carruth and three co-defendants charged in the shooting death of Carruth's girlfriend, The Charlotte Observer reported today. Prosecutors have given all four men a chance to plead guilty to second-degree murder and avoid a capital murder trial, sources told the Observer. HOCKEY Concussion may end Lindros' career i Eric Lindros' star-crossed career could be over. The Philadelphia Flyers star sustained his fourth concussion in five months and his sixth in two years during the first period of Friday night's Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Lindros, 27, spent the night in a hospital and re- turned to his southern New Jersey home Saturday, Neither Lindros nor his father and agent, Carl Lindros, could be reached for comment. Lindros was playing his second game after a 10- week absence because of postconcussion syndrome. It was widely speculated upon his return that Lindros' next concussion could end his career. Money is holding up a deal that would see Glen Sather become the New York Rangers' new general manager, according to a published report. The Mmonton Journal says Sather, who quit May 19 after 21 years as GM of the Edmonton Oilers, wants $15 million over five years while the Rangers have countered with $11 million over five.

AUTO RACING Wease wins Speedrome feature Billy Wease captured his second feature win in Kenyon Cars at the Indianapolis Speedrome. Wease took the lead from Ken Gregory with two laps to go in the 30-lap feature. Third-place Kris Deckard led for 18 laps. Kenny Stewart captured the 25-lap Late Model oval feature, the eighth different winner in eight fea- tures. Bob Johnson scored his first feature win on the last lap of the 25-lap Stock oval feature.

TENNIS Slovakia wins World Team Cup Dominik Hrabty and Karol Kucera led Slovakia to its first World Team Cup title at Duesseldorf, Ger- many, coasting to singles wins against Russia, which' fielded two players ranked in the world's top 10. TRIATHLON Ex-gold medalist returns in new sport Sheila Taormina, an Olympic gold medalist in swimming four years ago, won the women's Olympic triathlon trials in Irving, Texas, to earn a spot on the first U.S. Olympic triathlon team. Taormina, who won her medal in the 800-meter freestyle relay, is seeking to become the second 1 woman to win an Olympic gold medal in different events in separate Olympics. The other was Anfisa Rezisova, who won a gold medal in Nordic skiing in 1988 for the Soviet Union and in biathlon in 1992 for the Unified Team.
