are known to be hopeful that the amnesty promise reportedly given to Hopkins will be fulfilled. The British Government has not yet received a report from its observer at the trial. Although a statement on the sentences was prepared by the Department of Information of the Polish Exiled Government, it later was decided not to release it, and instead Prime Minister Tomase A. Ciseewski scheduled a press conference for tomorrow afternoon. (The United Press said the exiled Government planned to appeal for American and British intervention in behalf of the Poles convicted in Moscow.) In the opinion of some Polish moderates here, the Russian purpose in holding the trials was to discredit the Exiled Government of anti-Soviet activities as a means to strengthen the Soviet Union's hand in persuading the British and American Governments to withdraw their recognition of the exiled Government if the Moscow conference on the formation of a new national Polish Government is not successful.

Whether the conference is making any definite progress is not known here, but the fact that the Commission of Three allowed the Poles to meet among themselves first to iron out their party differences has been taken as a hopeful sign. If party differences can be reconciled, it is believed here it should be easy to reach an agreement on the program to be placed before the Polish people. Copyright. 1945.
