Queen Asks Papers Not To "Print Photos By RONAfcO THOMPSON Associated Press Writer LONDON (AP) — Queen Elizabeth II has asked British editors to refrain from publishing "personal and intimate" photographs which appeared today in a French news magazine, Buckingham Palace said. The 16 black and white photographs include six of the queen sitting up in bed in the royal bedroom. In four she is holding infant Prince Edward, born in 1964. It was understood in London before publication of the magazine, Paris Match, that some pictures showed her nursing the infant, but no such pictures appeared. "The queen has requested that because of the very personal and intimate nature of the photographs they should not be shown in this country," said a palace spokesman. "No one at the palace has any idea how they came to be available to the French magazine." A Paris Hatch spokesman in London said the photographs were "in perfect taste ... They are all very delightful pictures which tell their own story of the life of the royal family at the time or the birth of Prince Edward." He said the pictures were handed over to the magazine by an Englishman "whose identity is not being revealed." He said they were copies and that the magazine did not have the original negatives. He said the photos appeared to have been taken by an amateur, and sources close to the royal court regarded it as inconceivable that any professional cameraman would have been present at such intimate family moments. There was immediate speculation that the pictures were made by members of the royal family and belong to the queen's private album. Besides the set showing the queen sitting up in bed, one set of five are labeled as including Queen Elizabeth and Queen Ingrid of Denmark at "an intimate reception." The other blurred figures are said to include King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Don Juan Carlos of Spain and Queen Mother Frederika of Greece. Most of the figures are standing holding cups. A third set of five show the queen in coat and head scarf; Prince Andrew and Princess Anne standing up against what appears to be a store garage; the queen's husband, Prince Philip, in a swim suit; Prince Charles holding two large fish; Charles and Andrew in a plastic wading pool, and Edward, with his nurse, Andrew, Charles a; Anne. , I The royal request not to pul}- lish the photographs in Britaifi is not binding on editors, jvbtjt they would be likely to respeijt it out of courtesy to the mo*arch.
