Mia: Anyone who participates in any sport can use strong ankles. My ideas may add a new twist to your workout and reduce your risk of twisting an ankle. Most important: Always warm up first. • Heel raises: Stand with feet parallel, shoulder-width apart. Extend off the ground onto the balls of your feet, as if on tiptoes. Do 10 reps, rest, repeat. • Towel drags: Put a medium-sized towel on the floor. At one end, place a weighted object (a large book or small weight). Standing, use the ball of your foot to drag the free end of the towel toward you. Maintain pressure with the ball of your foot. You can slightly lift your heel to help push and drag the towel in all directions. Experiment with what's comfortable. • Resistance training: Sitting, have someone push moderately on the inside of your foot as you try to push against his or her hand. Repeat 10 times.
