Leaders added maximum gains of between $2 and $3 a share with some going well beyond that range on individual strength. The volume of business stepped up on the rise to an estimated 1,500,000 shares, the total in the previous session was 1,250,000 shares. This is the third day that the market made good progress from the break last week coming from negotiations for a cease-fire in Korea. The start of the rise Monday was considered largely technical by many—a natural bounce after a hard fall. Stocks going higher included Santa Fe, Nickel Plate (up around 8 at times), Canadian Pacific, Standard Oil (NJ), Cities Service, International Telephone, Kenne- cott Copper, American Cyanamid, Dow Chemical, Du Pont, American Can, General Electric, Fedders- Quigan, U. S. Steel, Bethlehem Steel, Chrysler, U. S. Rubber, Montgomery Ward, J. I. Case, Douglas Aircraft, National Distillers, and Zenith Radio.
