General De Gaulle's Rally of the French People did not run as a party in 1946, but his policies dominated the rightist groups. In 1951 election, strength of the centerist coalition, which has been running France, was cut from 333 Assembly seats to 285. The De Gaullists emerge as the strongest single party in the Assembly. Although the Communists lost 78 Assembly seats, they retain more popular support (26.5 per cent) than any other party. receipts 40; dirties 39; checks 37.
