MASON CITY GLOBE-GAZETTE, JANUARY 7 • 1937 THIRTEEN SOIL PROGRAM OUTLINED HERE County Agents, Committees Hear 1937 Plans Outlined. County agents and agricultural committees from Cerro Gordo and 10 surrounding counties Thursday heard explanation and discussion of the 1937 agricultural conservation program at the Y. M. C. A. here by Joe Reed, director of the north central division of the United States for the soil conservation program; and Ed Graff, extension service representative from Iowa State college at Ames. H. L. Dieterich. Brooklyn, member of the lov.-a agricultural con- j ; servation committee, presided at the meeting acting for Ralph Smith chairman of the committee, while Fred F. Clark, also a state commit- tceman, aided in handling the discussion. Detailed outlining of the committee's plan for 1937 topk up the morning session, with explanation of procedure for county agents am committees and discussion of in dividual problems occupying the afternoon. Lunch was served a noon in the banquet room. Representing Cerro Gordo county were Jay Richardson, chairman Paul Spotts, H. J. Brown, George Hitzhusen and Roy Harmon, members of the county committee, and Andrew Olson, acting county agent. Mr. Dieterich and Mr. Clark left Mason City late Thursday afternoon for Spencer where they wil conduce Friday the last of a series of nine of these conferences. Jumps to Safety Out Second Story Window WASHINGTON, Iowa. (ff)— Amos Stout, Jr., of Brighton, jumped to safety from the second story window of his home when fire destroyed it Thursday. Hirsch of the Mason City Fur shop. Guests at the meeting were Earl K. Behrens, new Boy Scout executive, and Mayor W, L. Wilcox, who led one of the community singing numbers at the request of Dr. R. F. Kunz, songleader. Denies Robbing Man Who Befriended Him DES MOINES, (/P)—Roy Leader, 22, pleaded innocent to a charge of robbing a man who gave him a place to sleep, when arraigned in municipal court. He was held with bond set at $1,500. Jack Clark, Des Moines, said Leader stole money from him after he allowed him to come to his room to sleep. Lionel Steadman Dies at County Home; Rites to Be at Grave Friday Lionel Steadman, 68, died at the Cerro Gordo county home Thursday morning at 7 o'clock following an illness. He had been a resident of the home ; since Dec. 14, 1936. Mr. Steadman was born in Scotland, Aug. 27, 1868. The only surviving relatives are two cousins, Charles and James Hardie of Des Moines. A'committal service will be held at the grave in Elmwood cemetery Friday afternoon. The body was taken to the Meyer funeral home. Squire Wood Rites to Be Held Friday Funeral services for - Squire Wood, 49, who died at his home, 408 Sixth Place southwest, Wednesday, from influenze and pneumonia, will be held-Friday morn- ng .at 10 o'clock at the Randall 'uneral home, with the Rev. C. E. Flynn, pastor of -the First M. E. church; in charge of services. Burial will be at Elmwood cemetery. Surviving Mr. Wood are his wife, Margaret, and two brothers, John and Ed of Mason City.
