tHE SALINA JOURNAL Almanac WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1, 1998 B3 JOYCE JILLSON Creators Syndicate Inc. HOROSCOPES • ARIES (March 21-Aprll 19). You may land In an awkward predicament because of something said by a friend that's been misinterpreted. Turning the tables on someone is fun. It is easy to develop healthier habits where food and drink are concerned. • TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Being honest with yourself may be harder than leveling with others. A major purchase requires a deposit up front. It's OK to play the game - it doesn't mean you are a fake. • GEMINI (May 21-June 21). A person you've become fond of may hide facts from you that could alter your relationship if discovered. It's important to realize that this person hasn't leveled with you out of a fear of losing you rather than in a spirit of deceit. • CANCER (June 22-July 22). Accept a special challenge. Your current financial circumstances limit options on a shopping trip. Relations that $ have satisfied you in the past are no longer enough. Take advice in financial matters, • LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). It may seem that everyone is joined in a conspiracy to deny you the peace and quiet you'd so dearly love today. Others' attempts to make you happy might make you uneasy instead. New friends are especially eager to please you. • TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (April 1). You can earn great money doing what satisfies youl Start by making some calls and requests this month. What you invest in this month pays off by August. Emotional issues are more pressing in September -- it may be time to either commit or cut out. Your best signs for romance are Aquarius and Leo. Your lucky numbers are 3, 12, 16, 44 and 57. • VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). A younger colleague becomes your biggest fan. You have more creative juice in the afternoon. Let others have their way tonight. Go to whatever lengths necessary to feel fantastic, loving and healthy. • LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Changing your ; appearance will spark the interest of a romantic prospect. Invest in a computer or new program. Any vacation plans that are made now could meet with unexpected complications. • SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Hold romance sacred, or mishaps and misunderstandings could drastically alter the situation. Ventures that are on the verge of being closed should be handled with speed and diplomacy. A Leo adores you. • < • SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Friends give you such a glowing testimonial that someone who's extremely influential will desperately try to arrange a meeting with you. Avoid accepting new responsibilities until tomorrow. Love sizzles with an Aries. • CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). A special relationship could advance your career a lot quicker than you thought possible. Obstacles that stood in your way in business mysteriously • disappear. Hanging out with a bad influence will • damage your reputation. • AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Consider postponing major trips now if possible. Remaining 'friends with someone you're not sure you can trust could be foolish. As much as it might hurt, it could be best to make a clean break. • PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Romance 1 develops naturally when it's not forced. Love with a Taurus or Aquarius is especially fantastic. Help an ' employer or mentor keep up with the times. Getting involved In a volunteer activity rewards your soul. "This is the best birth- I day I've had," Clapton told the audience Monday before launching into an encore of "Sun- CLAPTQN shine of Your Love." From Wire Service Reports T ADVICE Bad boy turns life around; toilet lid sparks poetry^ Dear Ann Landers: This is for "Losing It in Longwood, Fla." We, too, have a 17-year-old son who was a real handful. "Joey" lied, smoked pot, did poorly in school and had behavior problems. We tried to get help for him from his older brother, our friends and our priest, but Joey refused to accept help from anyone. When Joey threatened to kill himself, he was taken to our hospital, placed under psychiatric care and scheduled for counseling. He was put on medication to control his anger and released. Shortly after, he was caught vandalizing businesses. Because we couldn't control him, the police suggested we file a petition with the court to take over. It was the most difficult thing we've ever done. Joey was ordered to ANN LANDERS Creators Syndicate Inc. pay restitution, placed on probation for six months and required to attend weekly counseling and anger-management sessions. That was a year ago. The change in this boy has been phenomenal. He is like a different person. He was nominated last summer to serve on the youth group council as the regional leader for our church. Today, he is a happy, law-abiding young man with a bright future. — Tough Love Works in Portsmouth, Va. Dear Va.: It works in a great many other places, too. I have been recommending "tough love" for years and will continue to do so. For more information on how this works, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Toughlove, P.O. Box 1069, Doylestown, Pa. 18901 ( Dear Ann Landers: This is in response to "Louisville," who joined the national debate about whether the toilet seat should be left up or down. In my house, you put the lid down. This pre- TV TONIGHT vents the dog from drinking out of it, klutzes like me from dropping makeup in it and toddlers from throwing their toys in it. Who wants to stare at the inside of a toilet bowl while you brush your teeth? The lids are there for a reason. Use them. — Fed Up in Va. Dear Fed Up: You weren't the only one who wrote. Here's more: Dear Ann: When you stub your toe on the chair leg, do you curse the chair? If you bonk your head on the open cabinet door, why blame the person who left it open? That's like saying, "Look what you made me do!" "Louisville" said her friend groped her way to the bathroom without turning on the light because she didn't want to wake her husband. Then, she fell into the toilet because the lid was up. Who would she have blamed if the lid were closed and she sat down on that? How could anyone feel her way to the toilet and not feel where she was about to sit? — Family Man in 111. Dear Ann Landers: May I have the last word on the toilet seat debate? A toilers not the most attractive household appliance. Closing the lid improves its appearance and prevents things from falling into the bowl. If the lid was not meant to be closed, then what is its purpose? ,'. . I have composed a short poem on. me subject that I hope you think is wor|h printing. Thanks, Ann. — Lucy Prentyqe, W.
