A newly assembled group of student has set Friday of every other week as the date for its class criticism, in the presence of guest artists. Among those whose criticism will be stimulating and constructive to this younger set are Miss Fayette Bar-num, Miss Maud Ainslie, Miss Marion Long and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur D.

An individual showing is set up and the group plunges into diagnosing the advancement or letreat made in a certain time; and each critic-artist contributes his suggestion toward enhancing the quality of the work and improving its plastic de VlVrM Colored Kids, JW 2 2 and combi- jmm nations Jkfit0 AND rmp, I Straps Sl, I Guaranteed By Manufacturer and Capacity sign. It was his intention to send "In the Swing" and "Cape Neddick Road" to the associations no-jury exhibition here, but he was unable to do so on account of the conflicting date of his New York show.

Several pictures shown in a downtown window recently were owned by the Art Association, having been bought for the schools from the fund given by The Courier-Journal and The Louisville Times for that purpose. ay All Sizes 2Vz to 9 Widths AA to EE BETTER A BIGGER VALVES FOR LESS MOXEY. This revitalization, they say, shall be rigged in the spirit of the town's tempo.

A wide range of themes invited the hand and heart of the students in the spring last year. B. Speed Memorial Museum for the exhibit of the Philadelphia Society of Etchers, an exhibit made up of eighty-odd works by some fifty members of the society, many of them artists of international note. Besides etchings proper, the showing includes drypoint and aquatint. The method of these two latter arts, like that of etching itself, is almost as absorbing as the result. In drypoint the copper plate is grooved and routed in its naked state with what is known as a graver.

The edges of the furrow are then scraped away. A drypoint may often be identified by the furriness of the gouged lines. In aquatint the process is more nearly similar to that of etching, the lines being, as a rule, etched to begin with. The plate is then thoroughly cleaned and immersed in an alcohol bath in which are suspended particles of resin, or the resin may be blown on dry. The plate is then baptized in nitric acid, the resin flecks protecting the surface immediately beneath them and giving to the surface its characteristic stipple.

By repeated immersions different planes are obtained, the variety and subtlety of which depend on the number of dippings. Less popular than it was a hundred years ago, aquatint is still resorted to where surface tone is to be relied on for building up a mood. A collection of old pewter, wrought iron and stained glass will be shown at the Museum during the month of May. Stained glass will be sent from Boston for the exhibit, including specimens of some of the finest glass work being produced in this country, as well as examples of historic interest. The museum will also welcome loans of rare stained glass, as well as significant pieces of iron and pewter, to be exhibited with its own permanent collections.

The Louisville Art Association will sponsor its annual exhibition of the work of the Children's PYee Art Classes at the museum beginning the middle of April.
