Vogler will drive Dick O'Dea's super-vee and Cliff Cornell's midget. Both cars are powered by Volkswagen engines. PROMOTERS JIM Cook of IRP and. John Stiles of the Speedrome show have a joint "superticket" good for admission at both tracks. It costs $12 and may be purchased at the L'SAC office, 4910 West 16th Street, until Friday.

It may also be purchased by telephone with the cost being charged to Master Charge or VISA accounts. To purchase via telephone call Jep Cadou collect at 317-353-5206. The "Night Before the 500" program for L'SAC midgets at the Speedrome will include twin 50-lap features as well as a spring championship race for stock cars.

THE IRP PROGRAM marks the first time the supcrvees will compete on a track shorter than a mile in length. Drivers who made a name for themselves piloting midgets in years gone by will be special guests at the Speedrome. Among those expected to attend are Johnnie Parsons and Duke Nalon. Ali, World Boxing Association champ, was invited to spend two days in the Argentine capital as a guest of a local television station and the Argentine sports magazine El Grafico, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary- The champion's arrival was delayed when the Braniff flight on which he was traveling took off from Santiago, Chile, but landed again 10 minutes later after the control tower advised the pilot of a telephoned bomb threat.

THE PLANE took off again after a search by airport security personnel. "Security found nothing," an airport spokesman said. "They can't give me any answers. All they've done is talk for three years and it hasn't gotten me anywhere," Davis said.

"I've worked hard to make the progress I have. "But that's nothing new. I've always worked hard; harder than a lot of other guys around here, including a lot of those who are starting. "You can name just about any drill we do here and I'll be in the top five on the team. I've worked hard to get there.

And for what?" Davis said in an interview with the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel. Shula said, "I'm pleased at the job Gary's done for us over the years. But if there's a problem between Gary and me, then we should discuss it." Referring to the heated competition between Dolphin backs during the Super Bowl years, Shula said Saturday, "I handled the Mercury Morris-Jim Kiick thing a few years ago, and I'm prepared to make whatever decision to do what's best for the team." Shula said he felt the Dolphins needed Davis for reserve strength. Davis backed up Benny alone (traded to Washington last season) in 1976, then took over the starting job midway through 1977. He finished the season with a club-record 177 yards rushing against Buffalo.

He was not scheduled to fight or spar during his visit. He did. however, please television crews by sparring with an unidentified baggage handler Asked who is the most likely candidate to succeed him as heavyweight champion of the world, Ali said: "The best one is the man who just knocked out Ken-ny Norton: Ernie Shavers." Ali said he is going ahead with plans to retire "within two months," and denied reports attributed to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum that he is suffering from damaged kidneys which prevent him from fighting again. "He (Arum) was telling a lie," Ali said. "He is a promoter who makes a big profit from a fight and he is afraid I will not fight again.

If he says I have troubles, he is hoping I will try to prove I don't have trouble fighting. "The reason I will stop fighting is because I'm 37 years old," Ali said, "and it is very important to all my fans that I retire as champion. When I retire, I will be the only black champion to retire as champion. "All through the history of boxing, the average age for retirement has been 33 years," Ali said. "I'm 37.

It would be hard for me to fight even if I wanted to because my reflexes and my speed are not like they used to be. You old people know what I'm talking about." 1 935 W. 16th Phone 63M 452 Acrost th itreot from Speedway VW on, I WIS 110 Sill I I Iiii.ii 27.88 iii.u mi 19.88 I i.i nil 31.88 ou 31,88 itu.K 33,88 mi.is ii 33.88 i Him i 36.88 1 Save Save' Plus I 73 fl Each Plus 1 T.
