The Salt Lain Tribune, Friday, February 20,1959 D5 Scanning High School Highlights East's Orchestra Swings Out on '59 Concert Journey Today By Jan Ekeberg The East High orchestra, under the baton of Dow Young, Is beginning its annual tour of Salt Lake junior high schools. The first concert will be given Krtday at' Irving Junior High. On the program will be selections from "South Pacific" and the minuet movement from Mozart's Jupiter Symphony, The band will also piay. The second con- cert will be at Mw Roosevelt Junior High on Tuesday and will consist of largely the came pieces. On Friday, during an afternoon assembly, East will be honored with a concert by the University of Utah Band.

Last year the band concert was one of the most talked-about assemblies and one of the most enjoyed. St. Mary of the Wasatch By Jane Terry Seaweed, starfish and fish nets were part of "Ebb Tide," theme for the Senior Ball last Saturday at Mountain Peak Inn. Darlene Wll- 11 a s' orchestra provided music for the event. The traditional Miss St.

Mary's was Geri Tyndall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Tyndall, Reno, Nev. First attendant was Carole Hartoch, daughter! of Dr. and Mrs.

Kurt Hartoch, Winnemucca, Nev. Shirley St. Louis was second attendant, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Perry St.

Louis, Slater, Colo. At an assembly last JTonday, Sister M. Rosary announced new members of Kappa Theta. They are Carole Hartoch, Mary Colbath, Kay Belaustegui and Elsa Payne. The highest ranking student was Carole Hartoch.

The six girls to be on the Honor Roll were congratulated. They are Shirley St. Louis, Francis Herrera, Rosemary Newman. Rita Puccinelli, Cheryl Miglioretto and Julia Clark. Those honored in the Junior National Merit Society were Grace Er- Terry ramouspe, Maria Cordova, Hilary Berryman, Doothy O'Malley and Donna McPherson.

Plans are under way with games and prizes as the big a 11 a ctlons The program will feature talent from the boys and, a demonstration by the CAP drill team. With the increased Interest in photography about the Granite campus, the.new photography classes plan to organize activity will give its members the opportunity to learn as well as enjoy the work scheduled. The group is not completed, but as the year progresses, more and more activities will be planned.

The Utah Symphony Orchestra will present its auditorium for the entire student body next Wednesday. Every year during February and March, applications are submitted for Girls State. South By Annette Bischoff South High School has 35 stu- dents participating in the annual Weber College high school speech meet. Schools from all over the state will participate. South students will compete In poraneous speaking, oratory and debate.
