BOOHKR It was a perfect day for a parade yesterday and hundreds of thousands of spectators swarmed to downtown Indianapolis for the "500" Festival parade. The most enthusiastic viewers in the crowd estimated at more than 200.000 were the youngsters who lined the 2-mile parade route.

The parade had special meaning to them, its theme was "Through the Eyes of Children." AMID THK high-stepping bands, celebrities, and beautiful girls were several floats depicting events as seen through children's eyes. The top float award the Sweepstakes Trophy for beauty, originality and theme went to the Indiana Bell Telephone Company float, titled, "The Great Push Car Race." The float featured three race cars maneuvering for first, place. The Fort Benjamin Harrison and Army Recruiting Command float, titled, "The March of the Toy Soldiers" placed second in the float judging. It. received the President's Award for originality, beauty and theme.

Foyt leads the field away from the starting line for the 58th renewal of the world's only million-dollar automobile race. Hopefully, the skies will not unload with the wet stuff that has plagued the Speedway during the last three weeks. The weatherman has predicted no more than a 30 per cent chance of rain today. GATES TO THE mammoth facility will open at 5 a.m., with the 33 starting cars lined up in their pits by 8 o'clock and the 200-lap race scheduled for an ll a.m.

No one is quite certain how many people will be coming into the grounds today, although advance ticket sales reportedly were well ahead of last year and a crowd of 250,000 to 300,000 has been predicted. All parking facilities inside the Speedway will be open, although some areas, especially at the north end of Ihe grounds, st ill are soggy from the rains that have washed down the track several times in the last 10 days.
