Twelve Will Vie for Miss Garden City Crown Elizabeth Hatfield Miss Hatfield, 18-year-old daughter of Merle Lee and Karol Jean Hatfield, Leoti, gratuated in the top third of her class at Wichita County High School this spring. Beth would like to enter the field of nursing. She enjoys reading romantic novels and bowling. Her talent number will be "The Creation", a dramatic interpretation of poetry. Sponsor: Fansler Tires. Leslie Gwin Miss Gwin, 19-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Boy Gwin Jr., Leoti, is a 1970 graduate of Wichita County High School, Leoti, where she received a music scholarship. Currently, she is a student at Southwestern College, Winf ield, as a music major. She enjoys playing the piano and singing, basketball and volleyball. Her talent at the pageant wiU be a choreographed song, "I have Confidence". Sponsor: Finney County Bar Assn. Gay/a Speer Miss Speer is the 18-year-old daughter of Charles and Marilyn Speer, Modoc. A 1971 graduate of Scott Community High School, Scott City, sR<5 is planning to enter Weaver Airline School, Kansas City, Mo., next fall. Her hobbies include drawing, and she enjoys playing basketball. Her talent presentation will be a piano solo, "Deep (Purple". Sponsor: Mhiter-Wilson. Colette Schaffer Miss Schaffer, 18, is the daughter of Mrs. Francis Schaffer, Alamota. Coley was fourth in a class of 53 in the 1971 graduating class at Dighton,High School. This fall she will attend St. Mary of the Plains College, Dodge City, with a major in art. She enjoys sewing her own wardrobe, volleyball and swimming. She will present "Sunday", a dramatic interpretation by Bod McKuen. Sponsor: Brown Bros. >.**. Marsha Schwartz Miss Schwartz, 19, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Schwartz, Alamota, and a 1971 graduate of Dighton High School. She was awarded a $100 scholarship to the school of her choice. She plans •to attend Manhattan Vo-Tech School, with a major hi secretarial training. Sewing, singing, swimming and volleyball are her hobbies. She will present a song, "A Song of Joy", as her talent number. Sponsor: Brookover. Linda Waechter Miss Waechter, 21, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Waechter, Ulysses, and is a 1968 graduate of Lakin High School, Lakin. Linda will be a senior this fall at Kansas State University, where her major is in home economics. Her hobbies include cooking, sewing" and ceramics, and she enjoys bowling and judo. She will sing a song, "I Met Him In The Fall" as her talent number. Sponsor: Shupe (Bros. Bdbetfe Gould Miss Gould, 18, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Zero A. Gould, Syracuse. A 1971 graduate of Syracuse High School, Babs was selected as a member of the National Honor Society and named Miss Syracuse High School. She plans to attend Temple Buett College, Denver, Colo. Her hobbies include horseback riding and art, and she enjoys snow skiing. An original song will be her talent presentation. Sponsor: The Telegram. ' . Mary Kiefer Miss Kiefer, 18,, is the daughter of Mrs. Lester Kiefer, Leoti, and - a 1971 graduate of Wichita County High School. She was named local FFA Sweetheart this year. Mary plans to attend Sterling College this fall, with a major in nursing. She enjoys reading, playing the piano, hiking and track. Her talent number will be "Scarf Dance", a piano solo by Cahminade. Sponsor: KIUL Radio. ' Kafhleen McGovern Miss McGovern, 21, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold McGovern, Garden City. Kathy is a 1968 graduate of Garden City High School, where she was an honor student. Next fall, she will be a senior at Fort Hays Slate College, majoring in sociology and German. She is listed among Who's Who Among .Greek Fraternities and Sororities, and was a member of the .women's leadership orgamzation. Yvonne plans to further her education at Kansas State University this fail, where she has received a music scholarship. Her hobbies include swimming and cermamcs, and she enjoys horseback riding. Her talent {number will be "Peters Pan's Plea", a dra- matio interpretation.
