Indoor-Outdoor Theme Is Good In Entrance Hall Decorating an entrance hall cai sometimes be a ticklish prob lem. So often "decorating" ere ales a sliff, unyielding effec when the idea was to imbue thi area with warm cordiality, Anc frequently, attempts to be casua end in a closet-like look. Many families have had won derful results using an indoor outdoor theme for the foyer They've found this creates good transition from yard t house, and an informality whic! is at once hospitable and warm The indoor-outdoor theme is an easy one to work out. It couli (begin with the simple repetition | of the house exterior siding a 1 wall paneling for the entryway Any of the siding patterns can be used. For example, resawn western red cedar in popular tongue-and groove pattern would be striking as paneling for interior walls. Ii fact, resawn cedar siding ofter appears on the walls of sophist! cated living rooms. Bevel, drop board-and-balten, or channel ce dar siding would work equally well, whether rough or smooth surfaced. It's a good nils of thumb to select the same finish for the foyer walls as is used for the siding. A possible exception would be the repetition of a distinctive color which doesn't jibe with the home's interior coloi scheme. In that case, the siding can still be used for entry walls but with a natural wood stain, or a clear or weathered finish. To consolidate the wedding ol indoors and outdoors, wide areas of glass may be used lo show off the conlinuation of siding from outside in. This can be accomplished without destroying the privacy of the foyer if the glass is installed as a clerestory above the front door and adjoining cloak closet. Other ways to complete the indoor-outdoor Ihcmc would include the use of slate or brick for the foyer floor, an indoor garden arranged either m a planter box or as a "bed" at floor level. If you choose interesting ighting fixtures for the front walk, perhaps coachmen's lanterns, these, too, could bs repeated indoors. Gr. Barrington Woman Buys N.
