MR Norton (6), Bumbrv (1), Lownsfem (4). Dauer. and $20 million, included the transfer of a 40-year lease for operation of the Astros home stadium, the Astrodome, from Houston Sports Association Inc. to the new owner. The Astrodome is owned by Harris County.

McMULLEN, 61, of Montclair, N.J., is a millionaire naval architect who owns part interest in the Yankees. He was not available for comment after a spokesman for the Astros made the short sale announcement by telephone to the media but a Yankee spokesman said he obvious, ly would have to dispose of his interests in the Yankees to avoid a conflict of interest. "It is the same as the situation when Gabe Paul (former president of the Yankees) went to Cleveland," said the Yankee spokesman. "He owned stock in the club and divested himself of it. These things can't be done overnight but there's no problem involved." It was not known what businessmen were participating with McMullen in making the purchase, but presumably some Houston interests were involved.

The team could not be moved from the Astrodome under terms of the lease, which still has 28 years left. The deal was put together In the last few weeks as the Astros experienced the best start in their 18-year history. According to sources close to the negotiations, the sale was not going to cause any changes in front office or on-field personnel. OWNERS OF THE other National League teams will be asked to approve the sale at a Wednesday meeting at Chicago. Their okay was considered to be a formality.

(AP) Cotton Fitz-simmons, a former vagabond who transformed the Kansas City Kings from cellar-dwellers into Midwest Division champions, was named Coach-of-the-Year by the National Basketball Association Friday. "I am deeply honored," said Fitzsim-mons after being informed of the award in a telephone call from NBA Commissioner Lawrence O'Brien in New York. "But as you know, a coach is only as good as his players, and my players were very, very good this year." FITZSIMMONS received 37i votes from a panel of 66 media members in the NBA's 22 cities, followed by Gene Shue of the San Diego Clippers with 11. Atlanta's Hubie Brown, last year's winner, and Seattle's Lennie Wilkens tied for third with 512 votes apiece, followed by Portland's Jack Ramsay with Washington's Dick Motta with 2 and New Jersey's Kevin Loughery with 1. The award came a year and day after the much-traveled Fitzsimmons left the lowly Buffalo Braves to coach the Kings, a team that, had just finished last in the Midwest Division with a 31-51 record.

The New Jersey Americans captured their first victory of the American Soccer League season Friday night, upending the Indy Daredevils, 1-0. The lone goal of the game came in the 60th minute when Americans' forward Kevin Kiernan fired a shot which Indy goalie Peter Mannos deflected and Cliff Simmons, playing his first game, booted the rebound into the net. Daredevils' Coach Sam Donnelly, obviously upset over the team's second loss of the season against two victories and a tie, said, "They (New Jersey I are without a doubt the worst team we have played this season." The Daredevils, who took 16 shots to 21 for the Americans, were outplayed in the second half and, according to Donnelly, they were outmuscled.
