School Fire Believed Arson Arson was suspected in a fire that broke out Thursday in a second floor boys' restroom at Ben Davis High School, 1300 North Girls School Road, causing smoke damage estimated at firemen said. Rieth-Riley Wins Contract Rieth-Riley Construction Co. was awarded the state contract Thursday for construction of a new West 10th Street bridge over White River on a bid of $4,574,732.47. The law allows awarding of a contract by the State Highway Commission if there is a bid within 5 percent of the staff engineers' estimate. When bids were taken Tuesday, none was below the estimate, for the second time in recent weeks.

The engineers' estimate in the latest bidding round was $4.5 million, the commission staff reported. The bridge has been closed because of weakness. A new bridge location will be involved in the project, with changes in approach roads. Leadership Institute Planned Area high school students who are deemed to be potential leaders will participate in the third annual International Student Leadership Institute Saturday and Sunday at Cathedral High School, 5225 East 56th Street. Between 75 and 100 students are expected to attend the conference, which will be directed by the Rev.

Friends may call at the SINGLETON Joseph Johnston, 21, Dies After 1-Car Auto Accident Joseph Allen Johnston, 21, 608 Lions Head Lane, died Thursday in St. Vincent Hospital after a one-car auto accident early Tuesday morning. Police reported that Johnston was driving west in the 4000 block of East 82nd Street at 1 a.m.

Tuesday when his car left the road on the south side. The auto traveled 350 feet off of the road, struck an abutment and flew about 87 feet in the air. When the car hit the ground, it struck another abutment and rolled 67 feet before coming to rest. Johnston was taken to St. Vincent Hospital.

He was born in Crawfordsville and lived most of his life in Indianapolis. He attended Howe Military School and graduated from Park Tudor School, where he received honors for athletics and leadership. He attended Franklin College and Indiana-Purdue University, Indianapolis. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Second Presbyterian Church.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today in Leppert and Copeland Mortuary. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. William H.

William C. Montgomery of Pittsboro. Arthur W. Tavlor Dies, Retired Bishop Services for Bishop Arthur W. Taylor, 84, Owensboro, retired bishop and one of the founders of the of Church of the Living God, will be held at 10 a.m.

Beckerich Mrs. Robert J. (Joan) Beckerich. 51, 7599 North Meridian Street, died Thursday in St. Vincent Hospital.

She was a graduate of St. Agnes Academy and attended Marian College and St. Mary's of the Lake in South Bend. The lifelong Indianapolis resident was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church.

A native of Terre Haute, Mr. Corey lived in Indianapolis 42 years and owned Corey Pharmacy for 13 years. Previously he owned Stokes Pharmacy in the 100 block of North Meridian Street for 20 years. Mr. Corey was a member of Indiana Pharmaceutical Association, American Association of Retail Druggists, Knights of Columbus, Antelope Club, Loyal Order of Moose, American Society of Hospital Pharmacists, American Pharmaceutical Association and National Association of Retail Druggists.

He was a graduate of Butler Univer-. sity. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Julia A. Corey; three daughters, Misses Jacqueline and Therese Corey of Indianapolis and Mrs.

Mary Kathryn Daly of Louisville, and a son, Nicholas Corey of Indianapolis. 1 Cletus Gratz Cletus E. Gratz, 49, Carmel, superintendent of transportation for Conrail, died Thursday in St. Vincent Hospital. Mr.

Gratz, a native of Bellefontaine, Ohio, worked for Conrail 30 years, and moved here from Cleveland three years ago. Gratz of Lakeview. Frank J. Koesters Frank Koesters, 79, 7203 Kingsford Drive, died Thursday at St. Francis Hospital Center. He was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis.

Mr. Koesters worked in the treasury department of Shell Oil Co. 35 years until 1961. He worked for Flanner and Buchanan Mortuaries for 10 years before his retirement in 1971. A member of the Benjamin Harrison Law School class of 1926, Mr Koesters was a World War I Army veteran.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus No. 3433 and St. Luke's Catholic Church Services will be held at 10.30 a m. Saturday at Flanner and Buchanan Broad Ripple Mortuary and at 11 a.m. at the church.

Born at Scottsville, he lived here since 1935, working 28'ft years as a general foreman of maintenance at Chevrolet Body Plant until his retirement in 1964. He was a 25-year member of Masonic Lodge 669 and was a member of its Low 12 Club, Chevrolet Pin Club, Order of the Eastern Star 393 and Trinity illegal possession of a handgun by a convicted felon because of a faulty indictment.
