At the White House, Robards' Lincoln is Indeed telling plenty of those stories, both as a way of making a point and to take his mind off his many troubles. The war Is taking a heavy toll on him physically and politically. Further exploitation of Ironic possibilities are derailed as Arnold, through a series of unbelievable coincidences, comes to tend the cemetery dedication at Gettysburg. A Perfect Tribute wisely avoids some of the myth that has grown up around Lincoln's brief speech. Popular legend has him scribbling the Gettysburg Address on the back of an old brown envelope while on a train to the battle site. The speech also supposedly fell on deaf ears at the time, and it wasn't until later that Americans realized how much Lincoln had said In a few minutes. Actually.

Lincoln made five handwritten versions of the speech and, as depicted here, many newspapers and Everett recognized the Inspired nobility of his remarks on the spot. Robards' reading of Lincoln comes close to plumbing the depths of the speech: A Perfect Tribute does not. work for his former wife (Hicks). There he realizes the meaning-lessness of Brad's obsession with work and the Importance of relationships. Or does he? Most viewers probably won't stay with Honey, I'm Dead that long.

The characters are caricatures and most of the plot developments could have been written by a 4-year-old. Worst of all, for a comedy, the film Is as full of yucks as a funeral home. Fox Is billing HI, Honey, I'm Dead as a laughs-after-death comedy. This stiff suggests there are ho laughs after death. MONDAY 7:30 A.M.
