She taught briefly at L. L. Gordon Jr. Dies; Services To Be I Friday Services for Lawrence L. Gordon 21, 2617 Highland Place, will be held at 1 p.m.

Friday at the East Side Baptist Church, with burial in Floral Park Cemetery. Mr. Gordon died Friday at the University of Missouri Medical Center at Columbia, Mo. of injuries suffered Dec. 20 in an automobile accident at Concordia, Mo.

He was en route to Indianapolis from Fort Lewis College, Durango, Colo. where he was a more. He was a 1967 graduate of Shortridge High School. Mr. Gordon was a member of football and wrestling teams at both Shortridge and Fort Lewis College.

Joseph P. Danna Joseph P. Danna, 52, 104 North New Jersey Street, a lifelong Indianapolis resident, died yesterday in Marion County General Hospital. For the last three years he was an attendant at the Central Ride Auto Park. He was a member of St.

Mary Catholic Church. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in G. H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home and at 10 a.m.

in St. Mark's Catholic Church, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. John H. Kavanaugh Funeral services for John H.

Kavanaugh, 59, 1727 North Rural Street, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at Utica, N.Y. Burial will be at Utica. Mr. Kavanaugh died Tuesday in Community Hospital.

He was an area salesman for 24 years for Cook United Company which has headquarters in Cleveland. Among survivors is the widow, Mrs. Antoinette M. Kavanaugh. Mrs.

Stella Jackson -Mrs. Stella Jackson, 77, 4805 Guilford Avenue, died yesterday at St. Vincent's Hospital. had been a clerk in the English, Washington and Lincoln hotels. Services will be at 11 a.m.

Friday at Shirfey Brothers Central Chapel, with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Redelman Mtrs. Elizabeth E. Redelman, 89, 6106 Norwaldo Avenue, died yesterday in a local nursing home.

SHE LEFT Shortridge during World War studied nursing at Vassar College and served in Philadelphia (Pa.) General Hospital until the Armistice.

Returning to Indiana, she served as executive secretary of the Warsaw Red Cross chapter for a year before rejoining Shortridge faculty as a Latin teacher. Later, she turned to history teaching and took a master's degree in sociology at I.U. She also did graduate work at I.U., Butler University and the University of Chicago. SHE BECAME chairman of the Shortridge history department in 1943. She developed teaching plans for all departmental courses, taught ancient history, supervised a reference hall and headed a committee to prepare pupils for Eastern college entrance examinations.

She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and the Indianapolis and Indiana State teachers asociations. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Flanner and Buchanan Fall Creek Mortuary. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs.

Ezra Graham of Indianapolis and Mrs. Samuel T. Iden of Valparaiso. Gail Dee Loughrey Funeral Saturday. STAR STATE REPORT Danville, services for Miss Gail Dee Loughrey, 21, R.

R. 1, Danville, victim of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Hall-Baker Funeral Home here. Burial is to be in Maple Cemetery, Plainfield. Miss Loughrey was found unconscious Tuesday inside a car she had been cleaning while it was running in a closed garage.

Resuscitation attempts by the Washington Township (Avon) Volunteer Fire Department were unsuccessful. She was a graduate of Avon High School and had worked the last year in the Radio Corporation of America Rockville Road Miss Loughrey attended Avon Christian Church, and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Plainfield squadron, and the Hendricks County Civil Defense. Survivors include the parents, Mr. Mrs. Edward J.

Loughrey, a brother. and Neal M. Bowen Neal M. Bowen, 79, 8520 Westfield Boulevard, a Washington Township school bus driver for 38 years, died yesterday in Riverview Hospital at Noblesville. Mr.

Bowen was a lifelong resident of the Indianapolis area and a retired farmer. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Smith Funeral Home at Carmel, with burial in Union Chapel Cemetery. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Wilma Bowen.

John W. McConnell Services for John W. McConnell, 65, 149 North Post Road, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Shirley Brothers Irving Hill Chapel, with entombment at Washington Park East Mausoleum. He died Tuesday in Methodist Hospital.

He was a retired machine operator for Hail Tool Engineering Co. Survivors include the widow. Mrs. Charlotte M. McConnell Mrs.

She died Tuesday in a local nursing home. vesterdav New York. Frederic P. Carson Dies: Investigator, War Veteran Frederic P. Carson, 72, 7738 Fall Creek Drive, a private, well known investigator and a veteran of three wars, died yesterday in Methodist Hospital. Mr.

Carson got his start in the intelligence and investigation field when he was graduated from the West Texas Military Academy in 1916 and joined the Army. He worked in intelligence under the command of John J. (Blackjack) Pershing during the Mexican border campaign of 1916. He was still in the Army when the United States entered World War I and again worked throughout the war in intelligence as a sergeant. He began his agency, Carson Secret Service, here after the end of the war.

He was a 5 member of the World Association of Detectives, the Second Association of Professional Detectives, of which he was chairman of the board and past president, and the Council of International Detectives, in which he was first secretary and a charter member. Through these organizations he was in contact with private investigators from all over the world.

Mr. Carson was also a past board member of the Roosevelt Temple Methodist Church and a member of the Castleton Methodist Church and the Downtown Optimist Club. SERVICES WILL be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Flanner and Buchanan Broad Ripple Ray Scotten, Retired Businessman, Dies Services for Ray L. Scotten, 75, R.

R. 2, Clayton, retired superintendent of the Ballard Ice Cream Company and past president of the Hazelwood Volunteer Fire Department, will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Hazel wood Christian Church. Burial will be in Center Valley Cemetery. He died Monday at Community Hospital.

Mr. Scotten had been a deacon, elder and chairman of the board of the West Washington Presbyterian Church. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Hazel Scotten. Mrs.

Charles C. Riding Services for Mrs. Anita L. Riding, 47, 1439 West 32d Street, wil! be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Christ Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in New Crown Cemetery.

She died Tuesday in Methodist Hospital. Mrs. Riding worked as a cook at Holy Angels Catholic School for two years. She was a member of Christ Missionary Baptist Church, and president of the Willing Workers Club of the church. Survivors include her husband, Charles C.

Riding. Jack Wharton Services for Jack Wharton, 77, 2435 Guilford Avenue, will be held Sunday at (Tenn.) with burial there. He died Tuesday in Methodist Hospital. Mr. Wharton was born in Wilson County, Tenn.

and lived here 47 years. He worked for the Hygrade Food Products Corporation for 20 years, retiring in 1961. Mr. Wharton was a member of the Emmanual Baptist Church. Survivors include the widow, Mrs.

Ruby L. Wharton. George W. Holmes George W. Holmes, 84, 922 North Tuxedo Street, died yesterday in a local nursing home.

A timekeeper for the old Indianapolis Park Department for 25 years, Mr. Holmes retired in 1961. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Harry W. Moore Peace Chapel, with burial in Crowland Cemetery, Noblesville.

She was a maid at the Columbia Club for 10 years. C. S. Apostol Services Friday Services for Charles S. Apostol, 85, who owned Charley's Steak House on East Ohio Street, will be held at 1:30 p.m.

Friday at the Flanner and Buchanan Broad Ripple Mortuary, with entombment in Crown Hill Mausoleum. He died Tuesday in his home, 4703 East Kessler Boulevard. Born in Greece, he lived in Indianapolis for 60 years. He operated his restaurant for more than 50 years before retiring in 1959. He was a member of the Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and the Murat Shrine.

Survivors include the widow. Mrs. Ruth Apostol; three Panoria Aposdaughters, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Connie Zimlich and Mrs. Ruth McGraw.

(UPI) David Wallace, a master mechanic who rose to the presidency of the Chrvsler Division of Chrysler Corporation, died yesterday at his home here. He was 81. Wallace, who retired in 1953, joined Chrysler as a staff master mechanic in 1929.

He was promoted the following year to vice-president of Chrysler Division in charge of manufacturing and became president of the division in 1937, a position he held until his retirement. The holder of 70 patents, Wallace combined the talents of a practical engineer, researcher, inventor, planner and administrator. The funeral service will be conducted tomorrow from the Chapel of the Good Shepherd in Boynton Beach, Fla. Interment will be in Palm Beach Memorial Park in Boynton Beach. Walter E.

Spahr, Economist, Dies New York (UPI) Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Dr. Walter Earl Spahr, an internationally know economist who died of a heart attack Monday while riding a New York City subway. He was 78. Spahr was for many years a teacher and chairman of the economics department at New York University and also taught at Columbia and Princeton universities. He wrote many books on economics and edited "Monetary Notes," an internationally culated monthly publication.

Among the many awards he won during his career was one from the Freedom Foundation. Joseph W. Holman Joseph W. Holman, 75, 5428 West Southport Road, died yesterday in St. Francis Hospital.

Mr. Holman retired from Railway Express Agency in 1959 after working in the Columbus office and then here as a mail clerk for 41 years. Mr. Holman was a member of the West Newton United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 10 a.m.

McPeek Services for John T. McPeek, 83, formerly of 1321 North Winfield Avenue, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Royster and Askin Mortuary, with entombment in Floral Park Mausoleum. He died Tuesday in a local nursing home. Mr.

McPeek was a contract electrican for 50 years retiring in 1953. He was a 58- year member of the Capital City Masonic Lodge and a member of the Church of the First Born. Lifts Ban On Dogs In Camp Sacramento, (UPI) Until 1967, Californians who went camping in a state park weren't allowed to bring along man's best friend. Then the state began a trial period of allowing pets to stay overnight in parks and 50,000 dogs camped with their masters in 1967, with 90,000 canines in the parks the following year. Only 88 citations were issued for infractions of dog rules the first year.

But in 1968, citations numbered 512, most of them for dogs not on a leash. Hoosier Among First To Receive Social Security BERT BENNER STAR STATE REPORT Richmond, Ind. Bert B. Benner, 95, Mays, has been notified by the Social Security Administration that he is one of 421 "charter member" Americans drawing benefits. Benner, who was 65 and retired when the Social Security program went into effect in Jandary of 1940, formerly worked for Indiana Grain Producers Inc.

of Indianapolis. He was notified that he is the only "charter" recipient living in the Richmond District which includes Wayne, Union, Franklin, Fayette and Rush counties. Benner, who lives alone, keeps active as a member of the board of directors of the First National Bank of Mays and regularly attends the directors' meetings. Mental Health Center To Be Built This Year STAR STATE REPORT Columbus, Ind. A mental health consulting center to serve Bartholemew, Jenings, Jackson and Decatur counties will cost an estimated 500 and is to be built this year, according to Lowell E.

Engelking, Region 10 Mental Health Foundation president. The center will be built between Bartholemew County Hospital and Lincoln Park here. The two-story building will include administrative offices, out-patient and group therapy rooms, staff offices, dining areas, sitting rooms, visitors' waiting rooms and quarters for 25 inpatients. Twenty-five per cent of the cost has been raised by the four counties through a 10 cent tax. The state will pay 25 per cent and a Federal grant will take care of the remaining 50 per cent.

James E. Lakins Of Austin Killed In Viet Combat STAR STATE REPORT Austin, Ind. The death of Army Sgt. James E. Lakins, Austin, increases to 1,189 the number of Indiana servicemen who have died in the war in Vietnam.

He was killed in combat on Saturday. Survivors include his father, Lillard F. Lakins of Austin, two sisters and a brother. Funeral services are pending at the Buchanan Funeral Home at Austin. Wing 'N Prayer Brings Plane In STAR STATE REPORT Fort Wayne, Ind.

A twinengine Beechcraft circled Fort Wayne for an hour last night while crewmen worked to lower a stuck landing gear. The plane, owned by Central Soya Company of Decatur, was carrying two crewmen and four passengers. State police said company aviation personnel radioed instructions to the crew. The gear was lowered into place after crewmen banged on controls with their hands and made several abrupt dives. Fire trucks were standing bv at Baer Field when the plane landed safely.

Bus Drivers Vote To Strike STAR STATE REPORT Fort Wayne, Ind. Members of Local 682 of the Amalgamated Transit Union have voted 56-3 to strike the Public Transportation Corporation at midnight Tuesday. Harold G. Beeching, local president, said contract talks have been bogged down since last July over issues of wages, pensions and employment of part-time employes. Harry Scott, attorney for the bus company, said he will seek an injunction if the drivers strike and that he has advised the firm to fire any employe who walks out for violation of agreements.
