Notes: Gathers lawsuit dismissed A civil lawsuit brought by the family of Loyola Marymount basketball star Hank Gathers against two doctors was dismissed after the plaintiffs failed to show up to testify Wednesday. Superior Court Judge J. Gary Hastings dismissed the lawsuit at the request of the defendants. Gathers collapsed during a West Coast Conference tournament game at Gersten Pavilion on March 4, 1990, and was pronounced dead less than two hours later at a nearby hospital.

An autopsy revealed the cause of death was cardiomyopathy, a heart disorder. The Boston Celtics' pursuit of Xavier McDaniel Intensified Wednesday when the forward and his agent, David Falk, flew into town and met with the Boston brain trust. Executive Vice President Dave Gavitt had recently termed the Celtics' interest in McDaniel "moderate." saying that the 29-year-old free agent wanted a long-term deal and that Boston wasn't all that eager to accommodate him. A season-long diary by Christian Laettner won't be printed in GQ magazine because the former Duke standout never completed the portion of his chronicle about the Blue Devils' second straight NCAA title. The Washington Bullets and second-round draft pick Brent Price have agreed on a three-year contract reportedly worth about $1 million. BASEBALL 'Frisco allowed to present proposal San Francisco will be allowed to present a proposal that would keep the Giants from moving to St. Petersburg, National League president Bill White said Wednesday.

Lurie and Vincent J.Naimoli. head of a group of; Tampa Bay investors, had come to the meeting hoping for approval of the Florida group's bid, believed to be valued at $111 million. White said San Francisco's offer "must be comparable." Little League officials say they don't have enough information to file a formal protest regarding allegations that the team from the Philippines used older players when it won the championship. However, a district administrator said after an informal meeting Tuesday night that the investigation will continue. Two Indianapolis Indians, catcher Bob Natal and reliever Dave Wainhouse, were neamed to the American Association All-Star team for the 1992 season.

Natal hit .302 in 96 games for the Tribe this year and had 12 homers. He spent part of the season in Montreal with the parent Expos. Wainhouse was 5-4 with a 4.11 earned run average and a league-high 21 saves.
