On Thursday, Dec.

31 (2-5 p.m.), CBS Sports will provide live coverage of the Peach Bowl. The game will feature the Gators of the University of Florida as they take on the West Virginia University Mountaineers. The Gators have enjoyed a fine season that saw them leading the SEC at the end of the year. Much of their success is due to the performance of backfield speedster James Jones. Jones, the 230-pound junior fullback from Pompano Beach, plays the backfield slot like an offensive tackle.

He is one of the hardest-hitting blocking backs in the SEC. Offensive coach Vince Kendrick, com-, menting on Jones, said: "He is a superior blocker who has both the skill and technique to punish defenders." Jones not only hits hard at the line of scrimmage, but also his 4.7 speed makes him an awesome rusher when he gets moving in the open field. Head Coach Charley Pell also recognizes Jones' invaluable contribution to the team. "James Jones is a great football Dlaver. He is easily the best fullback we've ever had and it's difficult to imagine any college fullback being better.

He just does it all, runs, blocks, and catches the football." Sharing the running duties with Jones, are junior Johnell Brown and freshman Lorenzo Hampton. Brown is a 5' 196-pounder, put of Gainesville. Fla. He is an excellent pass receiver in addition to being a ground threat. Hampton is a 5' 200-pounder from Lake Wales, Fla.

He is primarily a blocking back but he has developed some fine running skills. He also catches the ball well enough to play wide receiver.
