Rice, the team that put the big crimp in Texas hopes for a perfect season, placed four men on the mythical team picked by United P.ress sports writers and conference scouts, the Aggies got three, Arkansas two and Southern Methodist and Texas Christian one each.

The voting wasn't close for any of positions as Rice spotted quarterback'King Hill, end Buddy' Dial, tackle Larry Whitmire DUKEPITTMAN PWTMAN and guard Matt Gorges Ag- gies Crow, Krueger.and end Bobby Marks; Arkansas center Jay Donathan and fulloack Gerald Nesbitt; SMU guard Tom Koenig and TCU halfback Jim Shofner. Hill, the sparkplug of Rice's great offense, polled 73 points and Donathan, a standout among an unusually weak crop of pivot men in the loop, got 71 to rank next in the voting. Shofner, the circuit's top rusher, earned 69 points, Gorges 67, Nesbitt 62, Whitmire 59, Koenig 49 and Marks 48. Texas Roddy Osborne, who won the quarterbacking berth on the 1956 team and who was the only other player with a chance to repeat, lost out to Hill by a wide margin in the balloting and wound up as a halfback on the second team this season.
