He was a graduate of East Texas Baptist College, and had a master of divinity degree at Southwestern Theological Seminary and a doctorate of divinity from Hardin-Sim-mons University. He was a graduate of several military schools and served as a U.S. Army chaplain from 1956 to 1958 in Europe.

He was en route to Austin, Texas, for a National Guard function at the time of the crash. Spraberry was a colonel in the Guard and state chaplain. He had been pastor of several churches in Texas and had preached in Anniston. Stone Services for Ms. Mary Joyce Stone, 39, of 8-D Constantine Mr.

Dozer died Saturday at Str-ingfellow Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Minnie Pearl Dozer of Anniston; a daughter, Mrs. Veronica Baker of Anniston; a brother, Collis Dozer of Ypsllanti, and several nieces and nephews. Poole TALLADEGA Services for Fred A.

Poole, 80, of Talladega, will be announced by Usrey Funeral Home. Mr. Poole died Thursday at Citizens Hospital. Shaw CENTRE Services for Joseph Malachi "Joe" Shaw, 66, of Centre, will be today at 7 p.m. at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev.

Melvyn Salter officiating. Burial will be in Cherokee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at the funeral home. Mr. Shaw died Wednesday at Baptist Medical Center in Cherokee County.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Melrose Heaton Shaw of Centre; a daughter, Mrs. Janice Reaves of Anniston; two sons, Kenneth Shaw of Centre and Ernie Shaw of Boise, Idaho; his mother, Mrs. Gussie Grimes Shaw of Centre; and three grandchildren. Mr.

Shaw was a Sycamore native and was a World War veteran. He was editor and publisher of the Cherokee County Herald, which his father established in 1938. Mr. Shaw took over the paper upon his father's death, and remained active in the paper's management until he was hospitalized several weeks ago. Dixie Miller of Cedar Bluff, who writes for the paper, said Mr.

Shaw was a good man to work for. "He wasn't arrogant with people," she said. Mr. Shaw was a member of the First Baptist Church of Centre. He also belonged to the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

SNOW CREEK DISTRICT Nurses Guild will have a workshop from 9 a.m. to noon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 105 South Christine Anniston. Bittle BLUE MOUNTAIN Services for Cecil James Bittle, 73, of 1511 Willett Blue Mountain, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev.

Joe Webb officiating. Burial will be in Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Mr. Bittle died Thursday at Str-ingfellow Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Almedia Bittle of Blue Mountain; five daughters, Mrs. Margaret Potts of Jacksonville, Mrs. Ruby Baxter of Saks, Mrs. Jean Peace of Talladega, Mrs.

Betty Chapman of Alexandria and Mrs. Linda Poole of Oha tehee; a son, James Bittle of Saks; two sisters, Mrs. Willie Smith of Gadsden and Mrs. Thelma Guthrie of Birmingham; a brother, Charles Bittle of New York; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Myron Flem-ming, Donald Klrsch, Kenneth McDonald, Larry McDonald, Garry Peace and Dennis Peace.

Mr. Bittle was a Talladega native and had lived in Calhoun County most of his life. He was retired from Willingham Welding Shop. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and was a Baptist. Bowers Services for Willie T.

Bowers, 66, of 1406 Mulberry Anniston, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Anniston Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. H.T. Hall officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery.

Mr. Bowers died Tuesday at his home. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Calhoun of Chattanooga, two sisters. Miss Mollie Bowers of Anniston and Mrs.

Julia Richardson of Los Angeles; a brother, Paul Bowers of Anniston; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers will be employees of Valve Co. Mr. Bowers was a World War II Army veteran receiving a European-African-Middle Eastern Medal, a Bronze Arrowhead World War II Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was retired from Valve.

Dozer Services for Easker Dozer, 65, of 1608 W. Sixth Anniston, wiU be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mars Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Morris Weatherly officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery with Model City Mortuary in charge.

Kemp, the only bidder for the equipment, will provide eight computers for eight color monitors for $3488; and six printers for $2,005. Approved a proposal from Anniston High School Principal John Toland that some summer school courses be offered to students who wish to take some courses in the summer to free up time to take additional elective courses during the regular school term. In the past, summer school was available only to students who had failed a course during the school year.

Courses to be offered under the new policy include U.S. history, typing, world history, government and economics. Heard from acting Superintendent Leon Garrett that the new middle school will likely be completed on schedule. The school is scheduled for completion March 27, and Garrett said it may be finished earlier. Some furniture has arrived, Garrett said, and the remainder is expected by March.

By JUDY JOHNSON Star Edacatka Edltar The Anniston City Board of Education will ask the Anniston City Council to live up to its promise and provide the money to buy out the contract of former superintendent Dr.

J.V. Sailors. Racing through a lengthy agenda Thursday night, the board approved without discussion a letter to the council containing the request. Although the board was recently told buying out Sailors' contract would not mean extra expenditures until a new superintendent is hired, acting board president Nathaniel Davis commented after the meeting that it is not known when the money will be needed. Davis said it would be good to have the money on hand and gathering interest.

He said the board had been told to submit a request in writing for the money. Sailors' forced resignation late last year followed the presentation to him of an agreement in which he is to receive full pay for the remainder of his contract, which runs util mid-1968. The contract Includes his salary, fringe benefits and travel expenses, apparently totalling nearly $100,000 for the 18 months that remained on his contract at the time of his resignation. Sailors is to remain available to TODAY WEAVER CONGREGATIONAL Holiness Church will have a revival today and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m.

Stephen J. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Warlick died Thursday at Citizens Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Thelma Warlick of Talladega; two sisters, Mrs. Josie Baggett of Birmingham and Mrs. Ruth Hodges of Talladega; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Todd Lackey, Edward Brown, Curtis Cooper, Paul Warlick, Norman Wright and Chester Lily.

Honorary pallbearers will be the brotherhood of the Ridgeview Baptist Church. Mr. Warlick was a Talladega native and lifelong resident. He was a World War II veteran and a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church. He was retired from Bemis Company, Inc.

For luniors Spraberry MARSHALL, Texas Services for Dr. Rufus Benjamin Spraberry of Marshall, the 57-year-old vice president for development at East Texas Baptist University, were Feb. 9 in Marshall. Spraberry, who was born in the Anniston area, died Feb.

6 in an airplane crash near Corrigan, Texas. Survivors include his wife, three children, two sisters, a number of nieces and nephews and several cousins in the Anniston area.
