Monday and continuing daily through July 27, Dr. George W. Truett, Dallas, leader Of the Southern Baptists ana an internationally known evangelist, will preach at a series of noon Bervices in some Oakland theater or auditorium. His evenlne addresses will be given at the Tenth avenue Baptist church. When it became known that Dr.

Truett planned to attend the northern Baptist convention fit San Francisco which opens next Monday, Dr. W. W. Bustard, co-pastor of the Tenth avenue Baptist church, prevailed upon him to ex tend his visit to the coast by. conducting a ten days' series of meetings in Oakland.

The noted southern preacher although 65 yea.rs of age, has occupied only one pulpit since his ordination 35 years ago, First church, Dallas. He has been instrumental in building that church from a membership of 715 when he became pastor, to more than 000. Ills Sunday school numbers 7000 and there are now 23 young people's societies. Three times the church has been rebuilt to accommodate the growing congregation. Believing that religious education was just as important for the well being of his church as evangelism, nr Truett hntlt a religious educa tion building which with the church occupies an entire city hlnrk Tt la Haven stories In height and when growth demands it will be possible to increase the, height to 13 stories.

1 Born in the North Carolina hills in 1867, young Truett was reared to farm work. He secured on an average about seventy days' schooling for a few years in the crude rural schools. At eighteen he be gan to teach. A year later he founded the Hlwassee High school in fienrcrifl which is now a Junior college, and for three years was its president. Young Truett wanted to be a lawyer.

His father moved to Texan at that time and shortly aft erwards, a small rural congregation, struck with the young man's consecration and sincerity, induced him to preach. He gave up his Trinity Ev. Lutheran "The Church With a Parish School" 17 Av. E. 15 H.

The pastor, Harold Camp, will also preach at night, the sermon being "Borrowed Axes." The travelogue will be "The Conventio.n on Parade," some views of what the Baptists are doing in northern California. The organ music for the day, by the organist, Richard Purvis, will include for the morning prelude.

Thomas Lewis to. Deliver Messages "Our Glorious Heritage" will be the subject upon which Thomas Lewis will speak at the Metaphysical library, 632 Sixteenth street, tomorrow morning. Baptist Leaders From 36 States to Be Featured On Convention Program More than a million and a half Baptists from 36 states will be represented by several thousand delegates at the Northern Baptist convention which convenes next Tuesday in the San Francisco civic auditorium.

The convention closes Saturday. Tomorrow two important pre-conventlon meetings will be held. The annual meeting of the Women's Foreign Missionary society will be held at the First Baptist church. Octavia at Market, with Mrs. M.

L. Thomas of Oakland, Mrs, Georpe C. Moore of New York city, president of the society, and Mrs. Eva W. Smith, also of New York vice-president of the society, will make the principal addresses.

FUNDAMENTALIST MEET Beginning tomorrow afternoon and running through Monday night the Fundamentalist pre-con-vention conferences will be in ses-elon with such outstanding leaders as Dr. L. Riley of Minneapolis, Dr. Austin K. DeBlols of Philadelphia, president of Eastern Baptist Theological seminary, and Dr.

John Herget, president of William Jewel college, and Dr. W. H. Rogers of Portland, at the Hamilton Square Baptist church, 1975 Post street. At the main sessions in the civic auditorium, beginning Tuesday morning will be heard the leading men of the convention and especially Dr.

George W. Truett of Dallas. Texas, who has been president of the Southern BaptiBt convention; Dr. W. Quay Roselle of Maiden, who will Hive the keynote address; Dr.

Charles L. AVhite of New York city, former executive secretary of the Home Mission society; Dr. W. H. Gelst-welt of Los Angeles, president of the Publication society; Dr.

John Snape, formerly of Oakland, speaking on "North America for Christ;" Dr. H. W. Virgin of Chicago and Mrs. H.

E. Goodman, also of Chicago, while Dr. C. Oscar Johnson of St. Louis, Dr.

Bernard Clausen of Syracuse, N. and others, will' be feard Jn addresses from day to day. Bruce Kinney of Denver and Rev. E. H. Cressy of Shanghai, China. There will be separate banquets Saturday evening for men and women.

Monday a gathering of the South Pacific district of women will be held at the Women's City club of San Francisco with luncheon at noon. Mrs. M. E. Bratcher of Berkeley is In charge of arrangements.

Exhibit booths will be In Larkln hall of the auditorium where all phases of denominational work at home and abroad will be visualized and many curios shown.
