BOBBY RIGGS, Chicago, and Alice Marble, Beverly Hills, displayed the caliber of tennis that carried them to national championships last year by turning in straight-set victories to win the singles championships in their respective divisions of the 53d annual Western tennis tournament at the Woodstock Country Club yesterday afternoon. Newcomb and Henry Holt Jr. combined for a net score of 291 to take first place in the Calcutta pion Bud Ward of Spokane, Star's novice tennis tournament, battled Mary Arnold, lOth-ranking woman player in the United States. sweepstakes which wound up at Meridian Hills Country Club rallied on the last nine holes today to win the Western amateur golf to a draw in the exhibition matcn which featured The Stars free public tennis clinic at the Fall Second position went to Wiggins, C. The match was stopped with the score tied at S-ail in order to give Eleanor Tennant, coach of Miss Arnold and numer Tie for First Place championship from George Victor of Chicago, 2 and 1. Ward went into the second round of the 36-hole match three down to Victor, a newcomer to the major tournaments. The champion won live of the first six holes on the afternoon round, but Victor rallied temporarily and led, 1 up, with nine holes to go. Ward set too fast a pace on the final nine, however, and the young Chicago golfer fell behind.

The match ended on the 35th after Victor's tee shot hit a spectator, and The third set was a repeat of the second with VanHorn taking only two games, both on his own service, as Riggs kept pounding away at the lines.
