Coffee, rabbi of the temple, may express himself as a private citizen in any manner he sees fit on political questions. This position was taken by 1he Board of Directors of the temple, in a formal statement issued today, following declarations of Dr. Coffee that he would resign if he were not permitted to express himself as a citizen on political matters. At the same time. Rev.

Edgar F. Ge, of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, issued a statement declaring he no longer subscribed to statements bearing his name, issued by opponents of Amendments 5, 6 and 7. REED WITHDRAWS Rev. Clarence Reed of the First Unitarian Church, whose name also appeared in signed advertisements attacking the amendments, declared he had requested that his name be withdrawn from any future propaganda against the amendments.

The matter came to a head yesterday before a meeting of the Citizens' Committee of 21. where Dr. Coffee appeared to discuss his opposition to the amendments providing for salary reductions for police and firemen, to be voted on April 18. The Temple Sinai position was outlined by Lionel Wachs, president of the Temple Board, after Dr. Coffee had discussed the subject of his political activity as a citizens with the board members.

Wachs' statement follows: TAKES NO SIDES "Temple Sinai is not taking part In this political controversy, nor has it ever taken sides in controversial political matters. Dr. Coffee as individual and every member of Temple Sinai as a private citi-len has a perfect right to their own opinion in this or any other political question." Declaring he had permitted the Use of his name in the advertising "letter" under a mistaken impression, the Rev. Dr. Gee issued this statement: "I signed the letter under the impression (which I feel the police and firemen also at that time believed to be true) that a voluntary reduction in salary was legally possible.

"1 understand now that the charter would not permit such voluntary reduction, and, therefore, no longer subscribe to the statements contained in the letter, and particularly to those portions of it which in any way reflect upon the fairness, integrity and motives of the Citizens' Committee of 21." Reed's statement asserted he had been "imposed upon" and it forbade the use of his name again by the opponents of the amendments. His statement follows: "I did not sign and I do not approve the statement published in the political advertisements in the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Francisco Examiner, and also in a circular widely disseminated entitled, 'Prominent Clergymen of Oakland oppose Charter Amendments Nos. 5, 8, which reads as follows: 'The document about which these questions can be fairly asked is unfair, unjust, un-American and full of deceit." "I feel that I have been imposed upon and I have requested that my name be withdrawn from the letter I signed, and that my name be not used in any further publicity matter put out under the direction of the headquarters opposed to charter amendments 5, 6, 7." The meeting of the Citizens' Committee of 21 was called to determine the basis for advertisements attacking the amendments as being "unfair, unjust, un-American and full of deceit." The advertisements bore the names of Dr. Coffee, the Rv. Dr.

1 Tall Can FRUIT SALAD San Leandro Church To Present Cantata SAN LEANDRO, April 14. The Easter cantata, "From Olivet to Calvary," will be presented as a feature of the Sunday evening services at San Leandro Methodist church by the church choir, the Rev. H. F. Doran announced today.

The cantata, originally planned for last Sunday's service, was held over because of illness of several choristers. Rev. Doran will preach on "Love and Life" at the morning service, he said, and S. R. Yates will direct the choir in a special program of sacred music.
