Bases Reuter Newt Asencr RABAT, MOROCCO, Feb. 11 The United States will start evacuating its five Morocco air bases within the next few months, the American Embassy announced here Thursday.

THE EVACUATION was promised by President Eisenhower when he visited Morocco at the end of his tour last December. The bases were granted to the U.S. by France when Mo-rocco was still a French protectorate. An embassy spokesman told a press conference the bases will be evacuated In stages. Two fighter squadrons of 50 Sabre jets each and a rescue squadron will pull-out of the Nouaceur and Sidi-Slimane bases in the first stage.

They would oppose bitterly any attempt to irfipose controls on the city's free press and radio. Khrushchevs stand on these matters was made brutally lear during the Moscow visit of Italys president Giovanni Groncht- WEST BERLIN, Khrushchev said, may decide its economic and social future but under no circumstances will it--beallowed to express its political desires. Is the West now ready to turn Its back on all its high principles and pronouncements, to try to impose some new arrangement on Berlin with the aid and support the Soviets? THE BRITISH have been quicker than the Americans to sense this dilemma some of their Influential newspapers have tried to describe this as an effort by the West Germans to exercise the veto. This is true only In limited terms. The right of self-determination as such is a much different matter from the veto as it is for example, In the Security Council of the United Nations. The West Germans, however, are conscious of the strength of this position.

Chancellor Konrad Adenauers backers and oppo-. nents alike were united on this point as they have not on any other in years. In Itself this is a measure of the threat which the Germans now begin to realize they are facing.
