SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1982 PAGE 8 THE INDIANAPOLIS STAR- Slain youth once active in his church ARNOLDS -MKNSSTORK- of the Marion County Prosecutor's Office. Patterson, of the St Petersburg (Fla.) area, was given a oneyear suspended jail term, placed on proba tion and released from police custo dy. because he chose the wrong friend. "A lot of times your associates have a lot of influence on you." the Rev. Mr.

Wadsworth said. "Maybe it was the other boy. who was two years older, who had something to do with it" The pastor said he was having trouble writing a eulogy for Baker. "There is nothing I could prepare because it was so unexpected." Patterson's case was transferred Friday from Superior Court to Mu nicipal Court, Room 6 at the request Announces the Opening of a SHORT SHOP Featuring Short Sizes, in Suits, Sport Coat. Slacks, Dross Shirts and Outercoats Also, Extra Short Sizes in Suits and Sport Coats about lime don you think?" 899-4448 By DAVID REMONDINI As the members of a Northside Baptist church bury Delvoyd Baker today, they'll recall a 14 yearK)ld youth deeply involved with church activites rather than a youth who had entered the world of homosexual prostitution.

"He wasnt too regular here late ly." said Jennie M. Taylor, who dir ects the youth at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 2701 North California Street "But he used to be around here all the time. As he got a little older he drifted off, as most teen agers do." Baker's body was found last Sun day in a ditch along a Hamilton County road. An autopsy showed he had been strangled. INDIANAPOLIS DETECTIVES say Baker had recently come under the influence of a 16year-old male prostitute.

On Oct. 2, the two went to the front of the Indianapolis Marion County Central Library, where ho mosexual prostitutes frequently solicit. Duncan V. Patterson. 47, ad mitted to police he picked up Baker that night and paid him $20 for a sex act in his motel room.

Patterson pleaded guilty to child molesting Friday, but he is not a suspect in Baker's murder, police said. Investigators said they have no suspects in the case. They do not know how long Baker was involved with prostitution. "Maybe the newspapers told it like it is." Mrs. Taylor remarked.

"But we'll still think of him as a little boy who grew up in our church." MRS. TAYLOR BECAME ac quainted with Baker when he was 3 or 4 years old, after his family moved here from St. Louis, Mo. "I fussed with him and I told him I'd spank his bottom if he wasn't good," Mrs. Taylor recalled telling Baker when he was small.

As he grew. Baker became deeply involved with the church. He worked on several dramatic productions and last Easter had the role of Christ in a church play, she said. Three days before his body was found, Baker rehearsed with the choir. He also attended Monday evening meetings for youths where they discussed morality and prob lems which confront teens, such as drugs, Mrs.

Taylor said. BAKER MAY HAVE fallen away from the church because of his relationship with the 16year-old prostitute. "It was peer pressure," she said. "This was something different and maybe he (the prostitute) said, 'Man, you should try this you don't know what you are The Rev. Albert Wadsworth, the pastor, agreed Baker may have died MBJO ta v-jK-rv I i lilt 1 Ml 3 ft ft ft RETIREMENT CENTER INDEPENDENT HOUSING ON THE GROUNDS IS NOW AVAILABLE 2 BEDROOM DUPLEX 1 BEDROOM DUPLEX 2 BEDROOM COTTAGES ft ft ft ft ft ft ft ft ft ft ft 1983 8-HOUR VCR MODELS NOW OPEN STUDIO PATIO APARTMENTS IN RESIDENCE BUILDINGS mmm I -tj- ma a tMLli Wj) Wp VGT 200 NO DEALERS, PHASE ELECTRONIC oMMtmiwiKiiii yr I 'grnmirrriiTBMBfc iiiili i' liniiiiiiiiiimaiiMiiiiiwig DIGITAL CLOCKTIMER SPECIAL SEASON SELLING Aug.
