A Columbus, Ohio, salesman eating in a Kingston Corners restaurant on Sunday afternoon mentioned during a conversation with several other men-that he had been in a fire house in New York State and had been able to wipe a clean handkerchief over the apparatus without getting it soiled. Three members of the contingent have been transferred to the local board from out-of-town boards and tomorrow's con tingent will iaclude resristranta who were married prior to Pearl-Har bor. Mrs. Judge contributed $6.50, the balance on hand from the Soldiers' Welfare League of the first war.

Kathryn Tyson Wed To Lt. John Cooney Miss Kathryn Tyson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tyson of 317 Ridge Street, Newtown, became the bride of Lt. John Cooney, eon of Mrs.

Bridget Cooney of 27 East Newport Newtown, yesterday morning at 9 in St. Leo's Church, Ashley. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Harold Mui-rooney, assistant rector, who also celebrated the nuptial Miss Anna Palsha, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor and James Cooney, brother of the baidegroom, was best man. The bride chose a gown of white mouaseline de soie fashioned with a sweetheart neckline, long sleeves and a tight bodice.

The full flaring skirt had a long train which was trimmed with rows of lace. She wore a fingertip length veil arranged on a coronet of seed pearls and carried an arm bouquet of white rose buds. The maid of honor wore a gown of pink fashioned similar to the bride's with blue accessories and carried an arm bouquet of pink roses. Mrs. Tyaon, motner or tne oriae, wore an aqua gown with white ac cessories and Mrs.

Cooney, mother of the bridegroom, wore navy with biege accessories. Both wore bouquets of sweet peas and roses. Following the ceremony, wnicn was attended by many relatives and friends, a reception for members of the immediate families was held at the Dresden, Wilkes-Barre. Lt. Cooney and his bride have gone to New York.

Lt. and Mrs. Cooney are graduates of Hanover Township Memorial High School. He is stationed at Camp Davis, N. C- TO PICNIC TODAY A large turnout is anticipated for the joint Sunday School picnic of Douglass Presbyterian Church and Baptist Tabernacle which will be held today at Sans Souci Park.

Those expecting to attend will take the regular street cars to and from the park. The committee in charge of events for the day has arranged an interesting program which will include races, swimming and a haseball game. Sgt. Stankiewicz was graduated from Ashley High School, class of 1942 and enlisted in the Army Air Force on July 6, 1942. He was advanced frcm private to the rank of staff sergeant when he received his aerial gunner's wings at Har-lingen, Texas. He previously had qualified as a radio man at Sioux Falls, S. D.

During the past week the youth's parent? had received letters from him which indicated that he was serving in New Guinea. He is the only eon of Mr. and Mrs. Stankiewicz. His father is a veteran of WorH War I.

Lt.

Yenalavage's exploit in bring ing dsck a ts-ii Liberator from a bombing mission over France to its base In Ens-land after the Dilot and co-pilot were wounded is one of the sagas of the war and 'or the Distinguished Flying Crosses of the British and American governments. An exceptional phase of the feat is that Lt. Yenalavage never before piloted a bomber. He was a guest at the regular meeting of Rotary Club yesterday at Hotel Sterling. Lt.

Yenalavage was bombardier with a crew that had been raiding an Axis submarine base at Lorient, France. He brought the riddled bomber and his nine crew mates back to England and made a hazardous landing without further mishap. The experience was only one of many thrills experienced by Lt. Yenalavage in 28 bombing missions. His assignment took him to objectives in the Middle Eaet, the North African area and over the Continent to points In France, Germany and Italy.

He also took part In raids over Sicily and Italy that preceded the present invasion and came through all these hazardous exploits unharmed. The Kingston fighter was re turned to this country recently and expects to be assigned as an in structor at an Army Air Forca Base. Lt. Yenalavage was a Junior at Bloomsburg State Teachers' Col lege before ne began his military career. He played football and baseball there and was a gridiron and track star at Kingston High School in 1935-36.

He has two brothers in service. Sgt. Joseph Yenalavage is at Camp Atterbury, and Charles Yenalavage, re cently inducted, is an apprentice seaman at Sampson, N. Y. West Side Lions Hear Lt.

Rebecca Barnard Members of West Side Lions Club yesterday were urged as representative civilians to encour age retired nurses to return to their profession, In a spirited mes sage delivered, by First Lt Rebecca M. Barnard of the Army Nursing Corps who has charge of recruiting in the Eastern section of Pennsylvania. Discussing the great need for nurses in both the Army and the Navy Nursirfir Corps. Lt. Barnard said there are sufficient nurses to supply demand if retired nurses and those working in industry get back Into their profession.

She pointed out It is the duty of the business and Industrial man hiring trained as a stenographer or an assembly line worker to release her for military nursing duty. She also suggested that families who have occasion to hire nurses should choose those over the age limit for military service. Hospitals in her opinion could be staffed and private duty nursing carried on by older or married nurses.
