For Calgary, only the uniforms have changed as they face Gretzky for the fourth time in seven years. The Flames were the only team to beat Edmonton and Gretzky In a playoff series in the past five years, beating them four games to three in 1985, when Montreal won the Cup. The Flames were 6-2 in the regular season against the Kings, who became only the sixth team in NHL history to win after being down three games to one in a playoff series. But their troubles with Vancouver have them wary. "It's only one series," said goalie Mike Vernon, who stopped 42 shots against Vancouver Saturday night.

"There still is a long road ahead of the Calgary Flames." "Like I said, we beat the best playoff team in the league and now we're playing the best team In the league," Gretzky said. berth, the longest span in the NHL, and the Penguins haven't reached the second round for a decade. But the Penguins enter the series confident. They won the season series with the Flyers, 4-3-1; won their last two games at The Spectrum after a 14-year drought there, and may have the most explosive tandem in the playoffs in Mario Lemieux and Paul Coffey. But that may also be their weakness.

"Pittsburgh may be rested, but they may be a little overconfident," said Rod Langway of Washington, the Patrick Division champion but a loser in six games to Philadelphia. "The Flyers have to stop Just two players in my opinion: Mario (Lemieux) and Coffey. Pittsburgh doesn't have the goaltender to stay with the Flyers, but they have an offensive-minded team."
