Recently the Indiana General Assembly passed a bill to exempt all of Indiana from Daylight Saving Time but providing that 12 counties be permitted to use fast time in summer months if legal under Federal law.

This would conform to practice in recent years in which most of the state has yearround Eastern Standard Time. Half of the state is on official, year-round EST and most of the other half on unofficial year-round EST. Twelve counties (those: in the northwest and southwest corners of the state) have been observing Central Standard Time in the winter months and Daylight Saving Time (EST) in the summer months.
