Chicago Grain but offerings increased on bulge, trading volume dwindled after midsession and at the finish most prices were within minor fractions of yesterday's close. Wheat and rye opened nearly a cent higher and extended their gains during the early flurry when offerings were light.

Shorts covered and commission house buying was stimulated by house passage of legislation increasing the borrowing power and extending the life of the Commodity Credit and continuing subsidy payments of flour millers. Denial of peace rumors in circulation yesterday discouraged bearish professional activity and at no time was there any pressure of offerings. The late trade was extremely dull and largely devoted to evening up of market positions pending additional important war developments. Wheat was up as much as a cent during the early trade but the buying soon subsided and prices dipped under the pressure of scattered selling. In the cash market the bread cereal was firm at OPA ceilings.

Receipts at primary markets were 498,000 bushels compared with 000 bushels a year ago. The corn market was quiet and the trade so small that prices were influenced easily. Cash prices were steady for choice grain and easier for the high moisture kinds. Handlers reported 85,000 bushels bought on a to-arrive basis.
