He graduated from Luzerne High School in 1939, and from Pennsylvania State College in December; 1942. While a senior at Penn State he was awarded the Spark's Medal for outstanding scholarship.

Enlisting in the USNR, November 11, 1942, he reported for training February 22, 1943. After a leave of two weeks with his family, he will report to his base for further assignment.
